Into her courtyard, enclosure of spring....
When she tries from the centre to count the flowers,
On her hairpin of jade a dragon-fly poises.

Tr. Xu Yuan-Zhong

When locked up, e'en spring looks sad in this lonly place.
She counts up flowers in mid-court while passing by,
On her lovely hair-pin alights a dragon-fly.
