個人概述
由於路遙出身農村，他的寫作素材基本來自農村生活，他始終認定自己“是一個農民血統的兒子”，是“既帶着‘農村味’又帶着‘城市味’的人”，他堅信 “人生的最大的幸福也許在於創作的過程，而不在於那個結果”。所以他認為“衹有在無比沉重的勞動中，人才活得更為充實”。他始終以深深糾纏的故鄉情結和生命的沉重感去感受生活，以陝北大地作為一個沉伏在他心裏的永恆的詩意象徵，每當他的創作進入低𠔌時，他都是一個人獨自去陝北故鄉的“毛烏素沙漠”，他在那裏審視自己，觀照社會。
路遙的創作隨筆《早晨從中午開始》正讓我們穿透他的作品而進入到他的內心世界，從中我們可以看到他對文學的執着和創作時的艱辛，“字字看來皆是血，十年辛苦不尋常“，正是這樣纔使我們看到了鮮花和掌聲之後的艱難之路。
路遙的追求與成功，他的憂思與矛盾，都同他的心理結構有着密切的聯繫，他被稱為“土著”作傢，主要受到的是農民文化的影響，作為農民的兒子，他深深地愛着他的故鄉，承襲和接受了傳統文化的影響，以農民生活作為他取之不盡的源泉。但他又是一名“文明”的作傢，他立意高遠，廣納博取，時時瞻望世界文化，他喜歡《紅樓夢》 、魯訊的作品，巴爾紮剋、托爾斯泰、肖洛霍夫的作品他更是百讀不厭。各種報紙期刊他也經常翻閱，勤奮大量的閱讀，豐富多彩的現實生活，再參之以他獨特的生活體驗，使他的創作博大宏闊卻又情深意長。
路遙平凡的人生構鑄了輝煌的世界，他的全部作品收入了五捲本的《路遙文集》 。
路遙的青少年時代
曾寫出洋洋百萬字的文學作品，為我們理想的生活而謳歌、吶喊的作傢路遙，已輕輕地離開的們7年了，儘管很長時間以來，我們都不願相信這一點。
這位黃土地生養的作傢，似乎又化作了一把黃土，飄落在每座山巔之上，也似乎化作了縷縷炊煙，彌漫在每一孔窯洞裏，給我們活着的人，留下無限的思念和財富。
1949年鼕天，在陝北清澗縣一個很偏僻的荒山溝裏，誕生了一個男孩，那位大字不識一個的農民父親，决沒料到他的兒子日後會成為震驚中國文壇的著名作傢。
當路遙降生到這人間時，他的家庭和社會生活的生存環境，並沒有給他呈現出玫瑰一樣豔麗的色彩。他的傢裏十分貧窮，十來口人衹有一床被子，缺吃，少穿，越來越多的孩子成了這個家庭的主要負擔。
童年的路遙，特別聰明和懂事。他的母親曾說：“我傢路遙從小就是個精，就是個腦子利（清澗方言，即腦子聰明），從來沒讓我急過肚子。他七八歲就會砍柴了，他把砍的柴捆成一捆一捆，摞在鹼畔上，摞下美美一摞，俊得讓人捨不得燒。”
路遙在王傢堡上完一年級後，這個貧窮的傢再也沒辦法維持生計了，於是，父母决定把他們的第一個兒子路遙，過繼給遠在百裏之外--延川縣郭傢溝的哥哥。
那是一個秋天的早晨，父親拖拉着路遙離開王傢堡，翻過九裏山，順着秀延河嚮他大伯傢走去。走到清澗縣城宿了一夜，沒有錢吃飯，父親衹好用生玉米棒子給他充饑。第二天黎明，父親用僅有的一毛錢為他買了一碗油茶，而後，繼續趕路。整個路程上百裏，路遙腳穿一雙破布鞋，走到目的地時，他身上的衣服都破了，腳上也磨起了很多血泡。當時路遙衹有8歲。
第二天清晨，父親以趕集為藉口走了。路遙躲在村裏一棵老槐樹背後，眼淚撲簌撲簌的看着父親蹋着朦朧的晨霧，夾着個包袱，像小偷一樣悄無聲息地走了。就這樣，路遙和家乡一別就是5年，父母很少來看望，也沒能力關心他。從清澗老傢走到延川郭傢溝，是路遙人生的辛酸之旅，他一般不願與人說起。
1987年的一個有月亮的晚上，路遙曾對他的好友朱合作說起這件事。他說，他成年之後也極少去清澗縣城，因為那地方曾是“我的傷心落淚之地”。
從此，路遙就與他的養父母生活在一下走。
慈愛、質樸的養母，如同黃土地上的馬菇茹，寂寞地開着燦爛的花。她和她的老伴，對路遙如親生兒子一樣，管他吃，管他穿，什麽都由着他。
養父母有時連口糧也沒法供應，路遙就常常獨自跑到荒野地裏，在收穫過的土地上，去尋覓殘留下的玉米粒充饑。
在憨厚善良的養父母支持下，路遙度過了他的求學時代。路遙的養父也是個農民，沒有孩子，傢裏也很貧窮，衹能勉強供路遙上村裏的小學。那時，路遙時常為買不起幾分錢一支的鉛筆而憂愁半天。
上小學時，路遙最怕上美術課。沒有道林紙，沒有水彩顔料，連那指頭大的十二色硬塊水色也買不起--每片都要一毛錢。他束手無策，衹得呆呆坐着，憂傷地看同學們調色、畫畫，或者找個藉口離開教室，不到下課不再回來。
小學時，路遙的觀察力頗強。他曾根據各人的相貌特徵、身材高低、發音習慣、家庭出身等特點，給班裏的每個同學送去一個令人發笑的又貼切的“綽號”。
路遙升初中時，因生活所迫，養父不願讓他參加考試。路遙心裏明白，養父實在沒有能力供他上學了。但生性倔強的路遙，是含着淚也要證明自己行！當時，在1000多名考生中，縣立中學衹招收100來人。結果，路遙在人生的第一次競爭中勝利了。
但傢裏實在沒有錢，半個月過去了，路遙都沒有去報名，等到東挪西藉地籌到錢去報名時，學校按規定不收了。路遙哭着找到正在縣上開黨代會的村黨支部書記。好心的村支書領着他找縣長、局長、校長、最後文教局開了個碰頭會，纔收下這個窮學生。
初中三年，是路遙人生中最睏頓和難熬的一段經歷。他沒有生活保障，連每月五六元的伙食費都交不起，有時連五分七的清水煮蘿蔔菜也吃不起。那時，學校的飯菜分為甲、乙、丙三個等級，路遙所吃的全是丙級飯：稀飯、黑窩頭、野酸菜。而所有這些，還是他要好的同學們湊集起來的。
每個星期天，路遙都回村裏參加勞動，吆喝牛耕種自留地，去大田裏背莊稼，掙工分，給貧睏的傢添補收入……因而，他受到村裏人的誇奬，常常得到勞動奬狀。
小小的路遙，不僅僅滿足於身邊的一事一物，還對外面的世界有一種荒漠渴盼清泉般的嚮往。
想瞭解外面，當時沒有其它途徑，衹有讀各種各樣的書。於是，路遙就對各種各樣的書産生了強烈的興趣，如饑似渴地讀個沒完。
課本，路遙看幾遍就罷手，卻專愛一晚上一晚上地熬油點燈讀課外書，這也許是他平時學習成績一般，但考分比較高的一個原因吧。
17歲之前，路遙連縣境也沒出過，但他已知道外面世界的很多事情了。路遙幻想有一天寫本書，把自己的想法痛痛快快地告訴更多的人，這使他産生了一種寫作的願望，因此路遙在小學和中學，每一篇作文都寫得很認真。
上中學時，路遙對文學作品産生了濃厚的興趣。那時，他近乎貪婪地閱讀《鋼鐵是怎樣煉成的》《青年近衛軍》《毀滅》《鐵流》等書籍，不僅為了創作，更主要的是想把自己鍛煉成為一個意志堅強的人。
在路遙的中學時代，給他幫助最大、影響最深的，是他的班主任常友潤老師。
常老師從路遙的作文中，看出他是一株很有希望的文學幼苗，便開始有意識地讓他往這方面發展。衹要班上需要寫成文字的東西常老師就讓路遙去嘗試。
一次，班上舉行朗誦會，朗誦的內容有詩歌、散文、戲劇片斷。為了把這次活動辦得有聲有色，也為了鍛煉路遙，常老師就讓路遙用文學語言寫出晚會的串聯詞。晚會上，那優美的串聯詞和精彩的朗誦，贏得了師生們的一陣陣掌聲。
常老師還把自己積攢下的很多文藝書籍送給路遙，有《鋼鐵是怎樣煉成的》《日日夜夜》《紅旗譜》《創業史》《紅樓夢》《三國演義》等中外名著。
常老師把自己的財富，都無私地交給了這位頗有天賦的窮學生，是期望路遙日後成纔。
所以，即使成纔成名了，路遙都把這位老師當作一生的知己，經常到常老師傢去看望，感謝老師的培育之恩。
1966年，路遙中學畢業後，回鄉村教書，後又調到縣文工團搞編劇。
饑餓的經歷和苦難的生活，給路遙留下了非常強烈的印象，也促使他拿起自己擅長的筆，來反映這憂傷或者苦痛的一切。路遙在《在睏難的日子裏》和《平凡的世界》裏所寫的，都有着自己辛酸的影子。
命運沒有給路遙帶來溫飽和高貴，卻使他深刻地理解了人生的艱辛和勞累。正如他在《平凡的世界》裏所寫的：“我們出身於貧睏的農民家庭--永遠不要鄙視我們的出身，它給我們帶來的好處將一生受用不盡。”
由於他讀得多，筆桿子又利索，加之到處盛開的陝北民間藝術之花，給了他“後天的補養”，所以，路遙文學創作的信心越發高漲。他以“櫻依紅”的筆名，在縣文化館的油印刊物《革命文化》上發表了《塞上柳》、《車過南京橋》兩首詩歌。這兩炮打響，路遙便一發不可收地嚮文壇進軍，有時達到了廢寢忘食的地步。
路遙不停地寫呀寫，僅1972年一年中，他就創作詩歌50餘首，其中有6首在報刊上發表。他的知名度也越來越高。
同時，路遙還與曹𠔌溪、白軍民、陶正等文學知音一起，籌辦了屬於他們那片天地的文學小報《山花》。他們自寫、自編、自印，辛勤地出版着《山花》這張充滿泥土氣息的八開小報。
反過來，《山花》也以其誘人的魅力，真誠地改變着他們中間的每一個人。對路遙來說，它似乎具有重要的轉折意義。正如路遙在《山花》創辦十周年紀念大會上所說：“藝術，用它巨大的魅力改變一個人的生活道路。我深深感謝親愛的《山花》的，正是這一點。”
1973年，23歲的路遙一步一麯折地被推薦到延安大學中文係，開始了寒窗苦讀的生活。他饑渴而貪婪地吸吮於文學世界的百花叢中，跨入了他人生旅途中一個新的驛站。
路遙-職業生涯
路遙路遙的作品《人生》
1、1949年出生於陝北山區一個貧睏的農民家庭，7 歲時因為傢裏睏難被過繼給延川縣農村的伯父。文革開始後受影響直到69年底纔回到傢裏務農。這段時間裏他做過許多臨時性的工作，並在農村一小學中教過一年書。
2、1973年進入延安大學中文係學習，其間開始文學創作。大學畢業後，任《陝西文藝》 （今為《延河》 ）編輯。
3、1992年積勞成疾，英年早逝。
4、1980年發表《驚人動魄的一幕》 ，獲得第一屆全國優秀中篇小說奬，《人生》 、 《在睏難的日子裏》 也相繼獲奬。 《人生》發表於1982年，改革時期陝北高原的城鄉生活構成了它的時空背景。
5、 1991年完成長篇小說 《平凡的世界》 獲得第三屆矛盾文學奬，他的作品 《人生》 被改編成電影後，引起巨大的轟動。
《平凡的世界》 還未完成即在中央人民電臺廣播。他的創作隨筆 《早晨從中午開始》 更是讓人看到了他對文學事業的執着的信心和付出的代價。正如 《痛悼路遙》 一文中所寫：“計算成功的方式是吃苦和受罪，他拼命工作，玩命寫作，自我折磨式的付出，在文學創作這條艱辛寂寞的道路上，竭盡全力，一路血汗嚮高峰攀登”。對人生的執着追求，對他所熱愛的故鄉的鐘情，以及對他的現實主義寫作手法的自信，這一切構成了路遙小說基本的特徵。

2007年11月17日是著名作傢路遙逝世15周年紀念日，陝西文藝界在西安和路遙的母校延安大學舉行一係列活動，紀念這位英年早逝的作傢。
“平凡的世界，輝煌的人生。”這句刻在路遙墓前的一塊方石上的悼詞，極為恰當地表述了路遙短暫而輝煌的文學人生。17日上午，出版《路遙文集》的華夏出版社有關負責人、陝西省作協有關人士、專程從日本趕來的路遙研究專傢等近百人，出席了在延安大學路遙墓前舉行的紀念儀式。
此前，陝西省作傢、評論傢和學者在陝西師範大學舉行集會，緬懷路遙。知名作傢賈平凹、高建群及評論傢李星等以及路遙的親友，與陝西師大近千名師生一起，回憶和評論了路遙的文學生涯。陝西省作協副主席曉雷寫成一部6萬字的紀實作品《男兒有淚》 ，用飽含感情的筆觸，還原了一個真實的路遙。曾以《最後一個匈奴》而成名的作傢高建群未語淚先流，高聲朗誦了《扶路遙上山》片斷，使不少人淚灑會場。
上世紀80年代，路遙以刻畫黃土高坡的陝北人沉重命運的小說《人生》和《平凡的世界》在全國引起巨大反響，後者獲得茅盾文學奬。1992年，時年42歲的路遙積勞成疾，在西安永遠放下了手中的筆。
2007年11月17日在延安大學的文匯山路遙墓前，來自海內外的100多位路遙研究者，肅穆地獻上花籃，表達對路遙的追思。在當天舉行的全國路遙研究學術研討會上，著名文學評論傢何西來、李建軍等學者就路遙的作品進行了研討。中國作傢協會嚮大會發來電函，對路遙的文品及人品給予極高評價。
路遙為路遙文學館揭牌
2007年11月17日上午，一座紀念我國“茅盾文學奬”獲得者、當代已故著名作傢路遙的文學紀念館正式成立。路遙文學館位於延安大學窯洞建築群一排，背依安葬路遙的文匯山，面臨窯洞廣場，占地約180平方米，館名由當代文學大傢王蒙先生題寫。全國政協文教衛委員會副主任王巨纔、中國作傢協會副主席陳忠實為該館揭牌。
在上世紀八九十年代，路遙是中國最有影響力的作傢之一，他的《平凡的世界》長銷不衰，人們無法理解，在路遙去世之後，他的傢人為什麽陷入如此的絶境？同時人們又不得不為路遙的精神所折服，他生前睏頓，死後卻為我們留下了巨大的精神財富，那就是文學的堅守和信仰。
作品雖暢銷，但是錢很有限
延安大學路遙研究會的內部期刊中，曾記載了這樣一個故事：路遙嚮前來看望他的朋友張曉光求助，路遙說：“我實在窮得可怕，你認識那麽多企業傢，能不能幫我找一個經理廠長，我給人傢寫篇報告文學，給我掙幾個錢。”張曉光後來幫路遙聯繫了一個企業傢，這也是路遙惟一一次賣自己的名字，那篇文章剛發表，路遙就病倒了。
王天笑也告訴記者，路遙名氣是有了，但錢的確是沒有賺到多少，“比如路遙百萬字巨著《平凡的世界》 ，當時出版社給的稿費大概是千字30元。在作品出版前就已經預支得差不多了，傢裏的開支和供養養父母、親父母，加上他又要抽煙，實際上並沒有賺到什麽錢。他去世後衹留下1萬元的存折和近萬元的欠賬”。
說起作品的版權歸屬，王天笑說，雖然路遙沒有立下遺囑，但他的妻子和女兒是法定繼承人，路遙又這麽疼愛女兒，無論從任何角度，他們都不想去爭路遙的作品版權。在繼承路遙作品版權後，路遙的妻子林達對出版方面很不瞭解，導致路遙作品出版的混亂，一些出版社超過了專有出版權的期限卻仍在銷售路遙的作品，而且一些出版社與林達簽約時並不是支付版稅而是支付稿費，協議有效期為10年，稿酬僅為每千字30元。在這種方式下，即使路遙作品再暢銷，路遙妻女拿的錢也非常有限。
精神遺産價值不可估量
千萬讀者受惠
著名作傢、陝師大副教授朱鴻表示，路遙的精神遺産至少有以下四點：第一，他對文學事業的那種神聖感，以整個生命去打造自己的文學；第二，他對普通人命運深刻、持久地關註；第三，他所塑造的高加林、孫少平等人物形象，給了社會底層特別是正處於奮鬥中的青年，以永遠的感情共鳴與精神鼓勵；第四，他盡可能地挖掘、表現了每個人本身潛在的樸素而又寶貴的精神。這四點足以使一位作傢永遠不朽。“路遙是我尊敬的朋友和師長”，著名作傢、省文聯副主席高建群如此說道。一個作傢去世15年了，人們還在熱烈地懷念他，還在談論他的作品，這本身就是對一個作傢最高的奬勵。路遙的作品中那些人物及其命運，已遠遠超越了文學的範疇，他給一切卑微的人物以勇氣與光亮，讓他們知道自己能夠走多遠。
著名作傢、省作協副主席曉雷與路遙在陝北相識多年，他說路遙生前經常說一句話，“金盆打了分量在”，這句話可以用來概括路遙，路遙清貧的身後，留下的是五捲文集，這套文集如同一個績優股，隨着日月遞進，其價格指標每時每刻都在上升，其價值難以用數字估量，受惠的是他的千千萬萬讀者和同行者。

賈平凹：懷念路遙人格和文格的奇特魅力(寫於路遙逝世十五周年時)
時間真快，路遙已經去世十五年了。十五年裏常常想起他。
想起在延川的一個山頭上，他指着山下的縣城說：當年我穿着件破棉襖，但我在這裏翻江倒海過，你信不！我當然信的，聽說過他還是少年的一些事。他把一塊石頭使勁嚮溝裏扔去，溝畔裏一群鳥便轟然而起。想起在省作協換屆時，票一投完，他在厠所裏給我說：好得很，咱要的就是咱倆的票比他們多！他然後把尿尿得很高。想起他拉我去他傢吃燴面片，他削土豆皮很狠，說：我弄長篇呀，你給咱多弄些中篇，不信打不出潼關！想起他從陝北寫作回來，人瘦了一圈兒，我問寫作咋樣，他說：這回吃了大苦咧，稿子一寫完，你要抽好煙哩！想起《平凡的世界》出版後一段時間受到冷落，他給我說：狗日的，一滿都不懂文學！想起獲奬回來，我嚮他祝賀，他說：你猜我在臺上想啥的？我說：想啥哩？他說：我把他們都踩在腳下了！想起他幾次要我調到省作協去，而我一直沒去，當又到換屆的時候，正是我在單位不順心，在街上碰着他去購置呢絨大衣，我說了想去作協的想法，他卻說：西安那地盤你要給咱守住啊！想想他受整時，我去看他，他說：要整倒我的人還沒有生下哩！我生病住了院，他帶着約煙來看我，說：該歇一歇了，你寫那麽多，還讓別人活不活？！想起他的虎背熊腰。想起他坐在省作協大院裏那個破藤椅打盹的樣子。想起他病了我去看他，他說：這個病房好吧？省委常委會開了會讓我住進來的。想起他快不行了，我又去醫院看他，他說：等他出院了，你和我到陝北去，尋個山圪嶗住下，咱一邊放羊一邊養身子。
他是一個優秀的作傢，他是一個出色的政治傢，他是一個氣勢磅礴的人。但他是誇父，倒在幹渴的路上。
他雖然去世了，他的作品仍然被讀者捶讀，他的故事依舊被傳頌。
陝西的作傢每每聚在一起，免不了發感慨：如果路遙還活着不知現在是什麽樣子？這誰也說不準。但肯定是他會寫出更多更好的作品，他會幹出許多令人佩服又乍舌的事來。
他是一個強人。強人的身上有他比一般人的優秀處，也有被一般人不可理解處。他大氣，也霸道，他痛快豪爽，也使勁用狠，他讓你尊敬也讓你畏懼，他關心別人，卻隱瞞自己的病情，他剛強自負不能容忍居於人後，但兒女情長感情脆弱內心寂寞。
陝西畫界有人以為自己是石魯，我聽到石魯的一個學生說：他算什麽呀，不要說石魯的長處，他連石魯的短處都學不來！
路遙是一個大抱負的人，文學或許還不是他人生的第一選擇，但他幹什麽都會幹成，他的文學就像火一樣燃出炙人的燦爛的光焰。
現在，我們很少能看到有這樣的人了。
有人說路遙是纍死的，證據是他寫過《早晨，從中午開始》的書。但路遙不是纍死的，他晝伏夜出，是職業的習慣，也是一頭猛獸的秉性。有人說路遙是窮死的，因為他死時還欠人萬元，但那個年代都窮呀而路遙在陝西作傢裏一直抽高檔煙，喝咖啡，為給女兒吃西餐曾滿城跑遍。
扼殺他的是遺傳基因。在他死後，他的四個弟弟都患上了與他同樣的肝硬化腹水病，而且又在幾乎相同的年齡段，已去世了兩個，另兩個現正病得厲害。這是一個悲苦的傢族！一個瓷杯和一個木杯在一做出來就决定了它的壽命長短，但也就在這種基因的命運下，路遙暫短的人生是光彩的，他是以人格和文格的奇特魅力而長壽的。
在陝西，有兩個人會長久，那就是石魯和路遙。（賈平凹）

我們不得不接受這樣的事實，無論這個事實多麽殘酷以至至今仍不能被理智所接納，這就是：一顆璀璨的星從中國的天宇間隕落了！
一顆智慧的頭顱終止了異常活躍異常深刻也異常痛苦的思維。
這就是路遙。
他曾經是我們引以為自豪的文學大省裏的一員主將，又是我們這個號稱陝西作傢群體中的小兄弟；他的猝然離隊使得這個整齊的隊列出現一個大位置的空缺，也使這個生機勃勃的群體呈現寂寞。當我們：比他小的小弟和比他年長的大哥以及更多的關註他成長的文學前輩們看着他突然離隊並為他送行，諸多痛楚因素中最難以承受的是物傷其類的本能的悲哀。
路遙從中國西北的一個自然環境最惡劣也最貧窮的縣的山村走出來，為中國當代文學的繁榮創造了絢爛的篇章。這不單是路遙個人的凱歌。它至少給我們以這樣的啓迪，我們這個民族所潛存的義無反顧的進取精神和旺盛而又強大的藝術創作力量。路遙已經形成的開闊宏大的視野，深沉睿智的穿射歷史和實現的思想，成就大事業者的強大的氣魄，為實現理想的堅忍不拔和艱苦卓絶的耐力，充分顯示出這個古老而又優秀民族最優秀的品質。
路遙入切地關註着生活演進的艱難進程，入切地關註着整個民族擺脫沉痾復興復壯的歷史性變遷，以及由此而産生的巨大痛苦和巨大歡樂。路遙並不在意個人的有幸與不幸，得了或失了，甚至包括伴隨他的整個童年時期的饑餓在內的艱辛歷程。這是作為一個深刻作傢的路遙與平庸文人的最本質區別。正是在這一點上，路遙成為具有獨立思維和藝術品格的路遙。
路遙的精神世界是由普通勞動者構建的“平凡的世界”，他在當代作傢中最能深刻地理解這個平凡的世界裏的人們對中國意味着什麽。他本身就是這個平凡世界裏並不特別經意而産生的一個，卻成了這個世界人們精神上的執言者，他的智慧集合了這個世界的全部精華，又剔除了母胎帶給他的所有腥穢，從而使他的精神一次又一次裂變和升華。他的情感卻是與之無法剝離的血肉情感。這樣，我們才能破譯長篇小說 《平凡的世界》裏那深刻的現代理性和動人心魄的真血真情。路遙在創作那些普通人生存形態的平凡世界裏，不僅不能容忍任何對這個世界的過去和現在、歷史和現實的解釋的隨意性，甚至連一句一詞的描繪中的矯情和嬌氣也决不容忍。他有深切的感知和清醒的理智，以為那些隨意的解釋和矯情嬌氣的描繪，不過是作傢自身心理不健康不健全的表現，並不屬於那個平凡世界裏的人們。路遙因此獲得了這個世界裏數以億計的普通人的尊敬和崇拜，他溝通了這個世界的人們和地球人類的情感。這是作為獨立思維的作傢路遙最難仿效的本領。
我們無以排解的悲痛發自最深切的惋惜。42歲，一個剛剛走嚮成熟的作傢的死亡意味着什麽？本來，我們完全可以自信地期待，屬於路遙的真正輝煌的歷程纔剛剛開始。我深沉的惋惜正是出自對一個文學大省一個國傢和民族的文學事業的無法彌補的損失。一切已不能輓回於萬一。所以期待即使是自信的有把握的，也都在1992年11月17日那個早晨被徹底粉碎了。然而我們就路遙截止到1992年11月17日早晨8時20分的整個生命歷程來估價，完全可以說，他不僅是我們這個群體而在更廣泛的中國當代中青年作傢中，也是相當出色相當傑出的一個。就生命的經歷而言，路遙是短暫的；就生命的質量而言，路遙是輝煌的。能在如此短暫的生命歷程中創造如此輝煌如此有聲有色的生命高質量，路遙是無愧於他的整個人生的，無愧於哺育他的土地和人民的。
以路遙的名義，我們寄望於每一個年輕或年長的弟兄，努力創造，為中國文學的全面繁榮而奮爭。衹是在奮爭的同時，千萬不可太馬虎了自己——這肯定也是路遙的遺訓。（陳忠實）
張賢亮追憶路遙：未死已知萬事空(寫於路遙逝世十五周年時)
有的作傢因作品而知名，作品婦孺皆知，口口相傳，可是問起這部作品的作傢是誰卻不一定都知道；有的作傢名字響亮，好像人人都聽說過有這麽一個人，但問起他有什麽膾炙人口的作品卻抓耳搔腮，頗費思量。我以為路遙和陝西作傢群似乎都屬於前一類作傢。平時不事張揚，不怎麽熱衷社會活動，電視上的出鏡率低甚至拒絶出鏡，又不愛發表高論，這是我們西北“老土”的特點之一。
我衹見過路遙一面，那已是20多年前80年代初期的事了。那時各地作傢協會和文學刊物的經濟情況還不緊張，現在已星散零落、被人鄙視得一錢不值的“文壇”還經常舉辦“筆會”。無非是由哪傢文學雜志或者哪個省區的作協出面邀請一幫外地作傢來本地聚集一次。大傢都有一種解放感，無話不談，氣氛活躍。聚會中少不了吃吃喝喝、遊山玩水。今天想起來，中國首開“公款吃喝”的應該是中國作傢，中國作傢是“公款消費”的始作俑者，罪莫大焉！也難怪今天的年輕作傢特別是 “80後”的一代，對我們這些老一輩的作傢瞧不到眼裏，氣不順。我們玩鬧的時候他們還穿着開襠褲撒尿和泥玩哩，今天也該輪着他們風光風光了。
我是在由陝西作協在西安舉辦的筆會上認識路遙的。可是路遙好像出席不多，出席時也是一臉愁雲，很少說話。西安筆會還安排我在“人民劇院”講了一次 “創作談”。前不久，我又到西安出席“麯江電影新人新作推薦展”，和著名導演謝飛一起給電影新作頒奬，地點正是“人民劇院”。一進大門，我就不禁想起20多年前那次開講“創作談”的聚會。那時樓上樓下連通道都擠滿了聽衆，人人洗耳恭聽。今天，我看任何一個作傢來講“創作談”也不會再有那麽多人來浪費時間了。我一人在臺上舞之蹈之高談闊論後，陝西作協請我吃飯，路遙也在座，仍然很少說話。但吃完了飯他非常誠懇地要我到他傢坐一坐，說是他傢離飯店不遠。我記得他傢就在陝西作協院內的宿舍樓裏，連建築面積也就 70多平方米的樣子。當年人人傢裏的陳設都很簡單，而路遙的傢更是簡單得近乎簡陋。在他傢裏，和他坐在一起就和在農村炕頭上盤腿而坐沒有區別，西安這座城市立即消失了。坐下後他給我衝了杯茶，用一個烏蒙蒙的玻璃杯。我突然發現好像整個房間都和茶杯一樣烏蒙蒙的，連他整個人都籠罩在一片蒙蒙的霧中。當時在座的還有王愚，我記得從他傢出來走到街上我對王愚說，你們陝西作傢大概是中國作傢中最不會生活的一群了。王愚跟我笑着說：對了！賈平凹剛買了個電冰箱，冰箱裏放的衹是辣面子和醋。那時陳忠實還沒有像今天這樣經常被人談起，後來纔知道忠實那時常住在鄉下。我們西北作傢和農村有着割不斷的情感與生活方式的聯繫，因而農村永遠是我們的疼痛點。這是我和路遙見的第一面，也是最後一面。
應該提的是他的身後事。路遙英年早逝後不久，我去北京時見到張鍥，張鍥那時正主持中華文學基金會，而我在成立這個基金會中是出過力的，所以還有點發言權。張鍥跟我談起路遙去世後他家庭狀況和他的清貧，據說路遙彌留之際最不放心的是他的女兒。我就想起路遙邀請我到他傢去時那滿臉誠懇的表情。實際上，我和路遙本來沒有多少話可說，即使在他傢也沒說什麽深入的話題，我和路遙是兩類性情的人。路遙要表示他的客氣，在飯桌上已經表示過了，用不着再邀我到他傢去枯坐片刻。我想，冥冥中這是不是路遙要給我托付什麽呢？對路遙的身後事，我一定要做些什麽纔對。我力主把路遙的女兒安頓好，最好是接到北京來上學。我跟張鍥說，中華文學基金會要做事，首先要從這件事上做起。而應該說張鍥和他妻子小魯比我還熱心，在他們積極操辦下，路遙的女兒很順利地到通縣的學校上學了，並且還經常到張鍥傢度假，把張鍥傢當成自己的傢了。
現在孩子應該很大了，算起來大約應該有了孩子也就是路遙的孫子了。路遙著作等身，在中國文學史上占着重要的一章，但他一生辛苦，不懂物質享受，大概沒有過過一天快活的日子。不知怎麽，我一想到他，就想把陸遊“死去原知萬事空”的詩句改成“未死已知萬事空”。（張賢亮）

在《平凡的世界》創作隨筆 《早晨從中午開始》中他寫到： “人，不僅要戰勝失敗，而且還要超越勝利。”於是有了為世人所驚嘆的百萬字長篇巨著—— 《平凡的世界》 ！
形象的喻指自己的主人公他熱切地嚮往着新的廣阔天地，他不甘心一輩子被土地牽住，他用他全部的勇氣，想要掙斷那副無形的枷鎖，可是人生的殘酷現實卻一刻也不放鬆的鉗住了他夢想的翅膀，他又不得不低頭與那個封閉而又沉滯的大環境。他被喜悅的眩暈迷失了奮鬥的方向，最後，像衹蒼蠅一樣轉了一圈，又回到了土地上。
孫少平，一個平凡的世界裏平凡的人，他求知若渴，卻苦於貧睏的傢境，為人師、打小工、做傢工，生活漂泊不定……他，選擇了一條最為艱難的道路進行人生的頑強拼搏，他在改變自己生存條件的同時又在追求着一種更高的生活意義，他的奮鬥，他的追求，給平凡註釋了另外一種含義！ 猶如與他靈魂的對話，這篇自傳性的文章，使我知道了他的生活是怎樣的艱辛，是怎樣的清貧，同時又是怎樣的高貴！巴爾紮剋曾經說過：“不幸是一所最好的大學。”在這所大學裏，老巴靠藉債完成了《人間戲劇》同樣，路遙也從這所大學裏完成了《人生》和《平凡的世界》 ，看這兩部作品的名字，能是生活在富裕的象牙塔裏的作傢寫出來的嗎？他們不僅擁有另一種時間，更擁有另一種人生，這種對苦難與孤獨的深深體驗，正是他們另一種財富，這財富使他們熱愛生命甚於熱愛自我，熱愛風景甚於熱愛自己的眼睛，這是一種深刻的平凡。
“生命從苦難開始，衹有在苦難中才能誕生靈魂的歌聲。”我終於讀懂了路遙這句名言的內涵，我也終於讀懂了平凡而又有傲骨的路遙。
路遙把作品寫進幾代人心裏
中國社會科學院文學研究所原副所長、著名文學評論傢何西來說，陝西作傢以柳青、路遙和陳忠實等形成了一個現實主義流派。路遙的作品是靠苦難來涵養，苦難給了他堅強的性格，充實了他創作的內容。路遙不僅僅是一個作傢，更是一個思想者，一個崇高的殉職者，他把作品寫入了幾代人的心裏。
陝西省作傢協會黨組書記雷濤說，路遙的名字連同他的作品，沒有因為歲月的久遠而失去光彩，恰恰相反，這種光彩隨着時間的推移，而愈加顯得透亮和耀眼，路遙依然活在千千萬萬個熱愛他的讀者的心中。路遙的作品是新時期中國文學一個重要推進階段所達到的具有典型意義的新高。
中國社會科學院文學研究所研究員、青年評論傢李建軍說，路遙的作品表現出一種人性的光耀、人格的偉大和積極的人生態度，這是偉大作品的共性，也是比當下以個人情結和生活碎片為題材的作品具有生命力的原因。
路遙的作品表現真、情、美
中央人民廣播電臺主任編輯葉詠梅（ 《平凡的世界》廣播劇編輯）說，路遙的作品表現着真、情、美三個特點。當時， 《平凡的世界》廣播劇先後播出3次，直接聽衆超過3億人。在中央人民廣播電臺播出的60部來自古今中外名著改編的廣播劇中，《平凡的世界》排名第八。
日本路遙研究專傢、姬路獨協大學教授安本實認為，路遙是中國最早對中國城鄉二元社會結構進行描寫的作傢，他的作品是逼近人性本質的，達到了世界文學水平的高度。
陝西師範大學趙學勇教授認為，路遙的作品經受了兩個時代（計劃經濟時代、市場經濟時代）的考驗，他是真正思考中國問題的作傢。學術界的冷清與讀者的熱捧形成了獨特的路遙現象，應當引起註意。
山東濟寧學院教授宗元認為，路遙作品秉承一種民間的原始正義，他不自覺地站在民間立場，這正是他作品受到讀者喜愛的一個重要原因。
北京語言大學教授鄭萬鵬說，同為“現代史詩”， 《平凡的世界》比《安娜卡列尼娜》少了一層憂慮，多了一層喜悅。 《平凡的世界》主人公們，體現着路遙的現代人格理想，即在完成自我意識覺醒的基礎上，完成對他人的責任，以實現更高意義上的社會和諧，倫理和諧。路遙以“現實的人文主義”與“新時期”以來富於人文精神的思潮一道，成為中國當代人文主義復興的徵兆。
相對於路遙生前和身故暴得大名的王小波來說, 路遙算是一位身後比較寂寞的作傢。因此，在路遙離開塵世11年之際，一位學者突然從大衆日報讀到韓石山先生的文章《我看路遙之死》 ，不免感到驚奇.然而,讀完之後，這位學者便衹有"驚異"了。

這位學者是一位文學圈外人士，但自信文學作品的閱讀面不遜於大多數的作傢.路遙的作品，印行於文集裏的，這位學者都看過。他的《人生》及改編的電影，在當時的一代大學生中掀起的那份狂熱,至今也還記得。路遙是位讓人敬重的有影響力的作傢。文學或許是有所謂時尚的,但文學的品格和作傢的生命力，卻在於超越時尚。時間不是文學的死敵,它是文學屹立的見證和活着的信物。
韓先生的核心觀點，認為路遙以死拼得一部獲茅盾文學奬的作品，太不值得;路遙之死的深層次原因,是對史詩式偉大作品的追求,鼓吹此種觀點的文學評論傢們是路遙早死的客觀上的無形殺手.一言以蔽之,路遙及有關評論傢不懂得文學,文學應該是輕鬆的,而不是沉重的. 路遙"光給自己的母親和妻子買兩件新衣裳還不夠,還要親手織一件能籠住天下的母親和妻子的華麗的衣衫.於是這苦命的農村孩子便衹能一步一步地走近自己的終結."
這位學者不曾有韓先生的幸運,與路遙生前無緣相識,但讀其書,想見其為人,《早晨從中午開始》還是認真讀過的.這是路遙寫作《平凡的世界》一書的忠實記錄,也是他文學求索歷程的全文本寫照.老實說,其中已經透露出濃重的死亡氣息.路遙在創作中對生命的過度透支,他的糟糕的生活方式,他的缺乏關愛的家庭生活,讓每一個關註他的人着實捏着一把汗.我也如韓先生的內子一樣,忘不了那個細節:路遙寫完《平凡的世界》最後一個字,打開窗子,把圓珠筆扔了出去.他心裏還念着托夫曼的一句話——衹要完成了,就是好的!
平心而論,韓先生認為路遙是活活纍死的,這觀點是不錯的;對路遙之死,他也不無"惋惜"之情.但讓人無法苟同的是,他輕輕一筆,用"不值"抹殺了路遙一生對於文學的全部追求和夢想.這就不僅是"不厚道"(韓先生自云),而且失之野蠻和霸道了.
其實,韓先生文章的主旨並非在於紀念路遙,而是藉路遙之死,提醒文壇衆生,不要蹈襲路遙前轍.他是在倡導一種"輕鬆,健康" 的寫作方式,輕鬆地寫作,輕鬆地掙大錢,讓自己和傢人過上幸福的生活.那麽,韓先生苦心孤詣用"輕鬆論"統一作傢們的認識和追求,有此必要嗎?
稍有文學史常識的人都知道,由於個人稟賦不同,人生價值觀有異,除文革那樣的特殊時代,文學家的創作追求和風格嚮來是多元的.有唐一代,李白之飄逸,王維之高蹈而外,照樣有郊寒島瘦,李賀嘔心瀝血,杜子美之沉鬱蒼涼;南宋偏安,淺斟低唱,鶯歌燕舞是主流,但辛棄疾,陳亮之徒,卻北望中原,慷慨悲歌,把欄桿拍遍.如此等等,個性使然,豈是強求得來?
近世如魯迅,活得纍,寫得也纍,年不屆花甲而歿,說其是纍死的,也無不可,但魯迅若沒有了魯迅的追求,還是否稱其為魯迅?說到底,人一生的值與不值,是一件極其個人的事,外人之臧否,並無實質性的意義.讓魯迅不做魯迅,去成為周作人或林語堂或梁實秋, 與癡人說夢有何異乎?放眼人世間,固然有纍死的人,玩死的,閑死的也不在少數.

謎團：種種疑團嚮我們襲來
在上世紀八九十年代，路遙是中國最有影響的作傢之一，他的作品影響了整整兩代人，他的《平凡的世界》長銷不衰，人們無法理解，在路遙去世之後，他的傢人為什麽陷入如此的絶境？路遙為傢人留下多少遺産？這些遺産又去嚮何方？本報記者輾轉陝西榆林、清澗、延安、西安等地，對此展開了調查。

無論是在榆林、清澗，或者延安、西安，記者都能感覺到陝西文人對路遙創造的精神財富的肯定，在很多文學刊物中，路遙的名字依然放在陳忠實和賈平凹之前，路遙出生地清澗縣還在路遙親父母的窯洞前立下“路遙故裏”的大碑，提醒每一個路過的人，這裏曾是一位偉大作傢童年生活過的地方。
這些評價在路遙傢人睏難的生活面前，顯得虛無而無助，在大傢對路遙一片贊揚聲之中，離路遙最近的親人卻少人關註。路遙的養母李桂英於2004年2月去世，在她去世前的2003年6月，延川縣决定給李桂英每月補助150餘元，當地報紙當時的報道是：半癱在炕頭的老人激動地說：“我真是感激不盡，衛國(路遙)地下有知，也能含笑九泉了。”李桂英獲得的 150元補助對路遙親父母而言仍是奢望，這兩位生活在清澗鄉下的老人一個癱瘓在床，一個有病在身，生活自理已成問題。如今，在陝西日報當記者的兒子王天樂剛剛因病去世，在榆林的小兒子王天笑重病在身自顧不暇。
誰來照顧他們？從榆林到西安，沒有人給出答案。將路遙帶上文學之路的曹𠔌溪說： “我們是有心無力。”路遙的好朋友高建群被記者追問這個問題時數次沉默，他最後說：“你可以憑你的感覺去判斷。”陝西作協黨組書記雷濤說：“我們關註的是路遙的直係親屬，比如他的父母(養父母)和妻女，如果是其他親屬，我們就不好拿這個嚮政府匯報。”
還有一個奇怪的現象是，路遙弟弟、父母的睏難都不願意告訴在北京一傢廣告公司上班的路遙女兒，甚至當路遙女兒從記者口中瞭解到父親傢裏睏境表示要 “盡力去管”的時候，卻遭到了王天笑的拒絶。而關於路遙當年的婚姻，路遙周圍的人都知道路遙和林達婚姻出現了嚴重問題，但15 年過去了，知情人對此仍三緘其口。當我們思考怎麽幫助路遙傢人的時候，關於路遙的種種疑團也嚮我們襲來。
實際上，在惠建寧發佈倡議書後，有網友跟貼捐款，但也有網友對此發出質疑：路遙這麽有名氣，他的書賣了這麽多年，作為他的弟弟，難道還會缺錢看病麽？記者在采訪中發現，路遙生前雖然創作了《人生》 《平凡的世界》等經典作品，但他去世後衹留下1萬元的存折和近萬元的欠賬。為了賺錢，他還炒過股，甚至開價5000元給企業寫報告文學。而路遙的作品版權現在屬於路遙女兒路茗茗，因為以前缺少版權知識，作品並非按版稅而是稿費計算，收入也極為有限。

幫助——傢人不接受
2003年元旦，林達與路茗茗簽訂了一份《遺産繼承協議書》 ，雙方就路遙生前所有作品著作權的繼承事宜達成協議，由路茗茗全部繼承路遙作品的權利。此後，路遙的作品也由稿費改變為版稅，人民文學出版社2004年獲得授權出版《平凡的世界》 ，該社發行部主任李春凱告訴記者，這幾年路遙作品銷售約有27萬册。儘管他沒有透露支付版稅數額，但可以肯定，版稅收入將大大超過稿費收入。
路遙作品版權擁有者路茗茗會幫助自己的叔叔和爺爺奶奶嗎？記者致電路茗茗，當把情況告訴她時，她顯得很吃驚，“五叔(王天笑)得病的事情我是去年知道的，當時我就想盡自己能力幫助他，但天樂叔叔說陝北的事情他來負責，叫我別管，我還不知道今年五叔到西安治病的事情。”路茗茗表示，她不會對叔叔、爺爺奶奶不管，她會立即和五叔聯繫，瞭解詳細情況，並計劃近期回陝北一趟。但在7月13日，記者到北京欲面對面采訪路茗茗時卻被婉拒。
就在記者給路茗茗電話聯繫之後，王天笑也給記者打來電話，他認為記者不應該將此事情告訴路茗茗，“茗茗對我很好了，去年夏天還陪我到成都附近一個的地方看中醫，茗茗在北京有自己的事情，我不想因為這件事情傷害到她。”記者問他路茗茗幫助父親的兄弟有什麽不可以，王天笑堅持說：“我是長輩，茗茗是晚輩，我不能用晚輩的錢，(如果那是路遙的版稅收入呢？)那也不行，如果哥哥在，我會接受，哥哥不在，這個錢就是茗茗的錢，大城市的開支是很大的，我不能收。”

十五載持續熱讀，路遙過時了嗎？
路遙以樸實語言鑄造俗事的人生，以平凡的敘事鍛造出高尚的精神世界。15年後，高加林、孫少平、孫少安……依然是能讓年輕一代讀者心頭一熱的名字。
在近年某傢青年報的一項調查中， 《人生》 《平凡的世界》被選為影響當代大學生最大的小說前三名。15年來， 《平凡的世界》長銷不衰， 《人生》魅力不減，路遙死後留下了不朽的精神財富：從陝西走出的年輕作傢到地産商潘石屹，再到千千萬萬從底層奮鬥上來的年輕人，無不因路遙的小說而熱淚盈眶。
然而路遙身後的15年裏，文學評論界對路遙文學成就的評價並非全盤褒揚。有人將路遙的小說比為《鋼鐵是怎樣煉成的》之中國版，將其視作勵志讀物：有人將路遙與瀋從文、孫犁等鄉土作傢對比發現，不僅專門研究路遙的學者著述不多，就連很多大學裏的現當代文學課堂上也將路遙一筆帶過；更有人幹脆將路遙歸為一位文學觀念滯後、創作方法陳舊的“落伍”作傢。
其實，路遙生前就已註意到諸如此類的詬病，他對此有過深刻地思考。路遙認為，對比十九世紀俄國和法國的現實主義文學的偉大程度，中國的現實主義創作還遠未成熟。在這樣的前提下，一味模仿新文學流派和“洋東西”，生吞活剝的引進註定沒有前途。因此路遙態度决絶地堅持自己的平實風格，他曾經頗為激動地表態：“每個人都有自己的語言風格，……如果我的作品中哪怕出現一行某某某那樣的文字，我都要堅决地把它劃掉。”

對於路遙式的清貧，該堅持還是摒棄？這樣的問題在陝西作傢圈內展開疾聲呼籲。著名作傢、陝西省文聯副主席陳彥認為，目前作傢所面臨的最大睏境，是物欲世界對作傢精神世界的圍追堵截，如果自身站立不穩，既渴慕着精神的不朽，又瞻前顧後地尋覓着與市場的短兵相接，那麽最終容易把作品搞得非驢非馬。
對於一些作傢也應該學會面對市場的觀點。青年作傢黃海的觀點頗為尖銳，他認為，作傢在創作中面臨的睏境遠比生活中面臨的睏境要大，它是生活所不能剋服的，它越來越多地受到多方面因素的製約，比如文化、體製、經濟等。作傢創作的任務不是去剋服這些問題，更不是去解决這些問題，恰恰相反，它是讓作傢把這些生活中面臨的睏境和焦慮帶進思想的迷宮。“卡夫卡、博爾赫斯、福剋納他們剋服自己寫作中的睏境了嗎？很顯然，他們的作品告訴了我們答案——他們沒有。為什麽我們中國式作傢的作品總是要剋服自己所遭遇的睏境呢？這是個偽命題。”
