從本質上將，這不是一個獨立的文學體裁。毎一篇經類作品，都可以歸納為其它的文學類別。比如道教文學，就可以細分為：道教詩，道教詞，道教散文，道教小說和道情。老子的《道德經》，就是典型的古詩。
