專門記載地方的山川風土、物産、人物等情況的著作，又稱“記”、“傳”、“譜”等。它是中國方志早期的主要編纂形式，內容單一，文字簡略，也無一定體例，一般不附圖。它與地圖合為一體，形成圖經。圖經逐漸取代地記，到隋、唐時期成為志書的主要形式。
地記在中國主要流行於公元1～6世紀的東漢和魏晉南北朝時期，隋、 唐、 宋時期時有出現，但已不是志書的主要形式。現知最早的地記是東漢初的《南陽風俗傳》，現存最早以“記”命名的是三國時期譙周的《三巴記》。至今有書目可查或有輯本的地記為：晉《吳郡記》、《珠崖傳》、《鄴中記》(2),劉宋《吳興記》（3捲）、《荊州記》（3捲）,以及《南雍州記》(6)等。專記風俗、人物、職官、氏族、藝文、水道和物産等某一項的地記,有《陳留風俗傳》（3捲）、《益都耆
舊傳》(14)、 《漢水記》(5)和《交州異物志》等。其輯本多見於清代《漢唐地理書鈔》、《玉函山房輯佚書補編》和《麓山精捨叢書》中。《隋書·經籍志》載“地記二百五十二捲”。
