专门记载地方的山川风土、物产、人物等情况的著作，又称“记”、“传”、“谱”等。它是中国方志早期的主要编纂形式，内容单一，文字简略，也无一定体例，一般不附图。它与地图合为一体，形成图经。图经逐渐取代地记，到隋、唐时期成为志书的主要形式。
地记在中国主要流行于公元1～6世纪的东汉和魏晋南北朝时期，隋、 唐、 宋时期时有出现，但已不是志书的主要形式。现知最早的地记是东汉初的《南阳风俗传》，现存最早以“记”命名的是三国时期谯周的《三巴记》。至今有书目可查或有辑本的地记为：晋《吴郡记》、《珠崖传》、《邺中记》(2卷),刘宋《吴兴记》（3卷）、《荆州记》（3卷）,以及《南雍州记》(6卷)等。专记风俗、人物、职官、氏族、艺文、水道和物产等某一项的地记,有《陈留风俗传》（3卷）、《益都耆
旧传》(14卷)、 《汉水记》(5卷)和《交州异物志》等。其辑本多见于清代《汉唐地理书钞》、《玉函山房辑佚书补编》和《麓山精舍丛书》中。《隋书·经籍志》载“地记二百五十二卷”。
