亦单称传。记载人物事迹的文字。一般由他人记述，亦有自述生平者，称"自传"。传记大体分两大类:一类是以记述翔实史事为主的史传或一般纪传文字;另一类属文学范围，以史实为根据，但不排斥某些想象性的描述。
记录某人生平事迹的文字。如:自传;外传;别传;传状(传记行状);传叙(人物传记);传诔(传记和诔文)
指以描述人物故事为中心的文学作品[novel or story written in historical style]。如:《水浒传》;《儿女英雄传》；一般传记性著作,尤指作为一种类型的这类著作
人物传记的种类
一、自传体传记。这是某一个人物自己写的记载自己的生活经历的文章。记载自己前半生或大半生的生活经历的一般称为自传，如《马克·吐温自传》，爱新觉罗·溥仪的《我的前半生》等。有些是以记载自己生活中的某些片断或某一方面的经历为主，这一般称为自述，如《彭德怀自述》。
二、回忆体传记。这类传记的作者往往是被立传者的亲属、朋友、同事或部属，他们主要是通过自己的回忆记载被立传者的生平与事迹。
三、是采访体传记。这类传记的撰写人，一般与被立传者原来并无交往，或者是与被立传者相隔几代的后人，他们主要靠采访被立传者的亲友，搜集被立传者的各类资料，然后经过作者取舍、创造，形成传记。如罗曼·罗兰的《名人传》、魏巍的《邓中夏传》等。
四、是自传体传记和采访体传记融汇在一起的传记。如闻名于世的瑞典电影明星英格丽·褒曼和美国作家阿伦·吉伯斯合作写成的《英格丽·褒曼传》。
五、在传统的散文体传记外，还有一些特殊体例的传记。比如80后诗人、学者风来满袖所著的《被隐喻的四月——徐志摩诗传》就是我国中国文学史上第一部诗体传记。
归于本类的，以帝王将相和军政界的人物为主，其余人等，分划入其它板块的相关类型。

The type of biography
First, autobiographical biography. This is a character in a written record of their own life experiences of the article.
