　　宋宁宗赵扩（1168年－1224年八月）是中国南宋的第四位皇帝。宋宁宗1194年以太子继位，一直到他逝世。宋宁宗继位时他的父亲宋光宗还没有死，名义上宋光宗禅位给宋宁宗，实际上是宋光宗的皇后在赵汝愚和韩侂胄的支持下造成的一起宫廷政变。
　　
　　宋宁宗继位后他的两个宰相赵汝愚与韩侂胄不和，互相之间争斗。最后韩侂胄使用权术让宋宁宗罢免赵汝愚，并将赵汝愚所提倡的理学称为伪学，对理学家进行打击，造成庆元党禁。这个政策一直维持到1202年。韩从此成为南宋举足轻重的人物。他的地位和权力远高出一般的宰相。
　　
　　宋宁宗在南宋统治初期由于韩侂胄的作用对金朝持对抗态度，他追封岳飞为鄂王，剥夺秦桧的所有封职。但是1206年韩侂胄北伐战败后宋宁宗改变了他的政策。1207年11月他的皇后杨氏与史弥远一起秘密策划利用韩战败的机会谋杀了韩并将韩的首级送往金朝作为谢罪。1208年在史弥远的操纵下宋宁宗与金朝达成了嘉定和议，向金朝称伯，自己称侄，又向金朝进贡金银。韩侂胄死后史弥远成为宋宁宗的宰相兼枢密使，独揽宋朝大政。史弥远恢复了秦桧的王爵和官职。
　　
　　宋宁宗时期，宋朝比较安定，百姓比较富裕。宋宁宗还恢复理学地位。
　　
　　宋宁宗先后有8个儿子，但都未及成年就夭折了，他立赵竑为养子和太子，但因为赵竑对史弥远专权不满，因此宋宁宗死后史弥远废黜赵竑，另立赵昀为皇帝。
　　
　　嘉定十七年闰八月宋宁宗卒于福宁殿，次年三月葬于永茂陵。
