　　宋寧宗趙擴（1168年－1224年八月）是中國南宋的第四位皇帝。宋寧宗1194年以太子繼位，一直到他逝世。宋寧宗繼位時他的父親宋光宗還沒有死，名義上宋光宗禪位給宋寧宗，實際上是宋光宗的皇后在趙汝愚和韓侂胄的支持下造成的一起宮廷政變。
　　
　　宋寧宗繼位他的兩個宰相趙汝愚與韓侂胄不和，互相之間爭。最韓侂胄使用權讓宋寧宗罷免趙汝愚，將趙汝愚所提倡的理學稱為偽學，對理學家進行打擊，造成慶元禁。這個政策一直維持到1202年。韓從此成為南宋舉足輕重的人物。他的地位和權力遠高出一般的宰相。
　　
　　宋寧宗在南宋統治初期由於韓侂胄的作用對金朝持對抗態度，他追封嶽飛為鄂王，剝奪秦檜的所有封職。但是1206年韓侂胄北伐戰敗宋寧宗改變他的政策。1207年11月他的皇后楊氏與史彌遠一起秘密策利用韓戰敗的機會謀殺韓將韓的首級送往金朝作為謝罪。1208年在史彌遠的操縱下宋寧宗與金朝達成嘉定和議，金朝稱伯，自己稱侄，又金朝進貢金銀。韓侂胄死史彌遠成為宋寧宗的宰相兼樞密使，獨攬宋朝大政。史彌遠恢受不了秦檜的王爵和官職。
　　
　　宋寧宗時期，宋朝比較安定，百姓比較富裕。宋寧宗還恢理學地位。
　　
　　宋寧宗先有8個兒子，但都未及成年就夭受不了，他立趙竑為養子和太子，但因為趙竑對史彌遠專權不滿，因此宋寧宗死史彌遠廢黜趙竑，另立趙昀為皇帝。
　　
　　嘉定十七年閏八月宋寧宗卒於福寧殿，次年三月葬於永茂陵。
