【代宗生平】
唐代宗李豫，原被封為廣平王。後進封為楚王。馬嵬坡事變後，他隨肅宗北上，任為“兵馬大元帥”，統帥諸將收復兩京，公元758年被立為皇太子。起初，肅宗皇后張良娣與宦官李輔國互相利用，後來卻有嫌隙。張皇后想殺李輔國，廢掉太子李豫立自己的兒子。公元762年4月，李輔國與程元振將張皇后殺死。肅宗因此被驚死，李輔國於同月擁立他為帝，改年號為“寶應”。
唐代宗繼位後，李輔國以立帝有功，恃此驕橫。竟然對代宗說：“陛下衹須深居宮中，外面的政事有老奴來處理。代宗雖然心中不滿，但懾於他手握兵權，衹好委麯求全，尊稱他為尚父（可尊尚的父輩），事無大小，都要與他商量後才能决定。不久，代宗乘李輔國不備，派人扮作盜賊刺殺了李輔國，然後假裝下令追捕盜賊，並派宮中使者慰問其傢屬。
此前，安史叛軍再次發生內亂，史思明殺安慶緒，自稱大燕皇帝，並於公元759年五月，從李光弼手中，奪取了洛陽，史思明占據洛陽不久，就被自己的兒子史朝義所殺。
寶應元年（公元762年）十月代宗任命雍王李適為統兵元帥、朔方節度使僕固懷恩為副元帥，又嚮回紇藉兵十萬，攻打再次被叛軍占據的東京洛陽，史朝義敗走莫州（今天河北任丘北），史朝義部將李寶臣、李懷仙、田承嗣等率部相繼嚮唐軍投降。廣德元年(公元763年)正月，史朝義在衆叛親離的情況下上吊自殺，自此，唐朝完全平定了延續七年零三個月的安史之亂。但是，經過這次戰亂，唐朝元氣大傷，由強盛轉為衰落。東有藩鎮割據，西有吐蕃侵擾，北有回紇以馬匹高價交換的睏難局面。代宗又迷信佛教，慫恿寺院占有許多良田美宅，國傢財政經濟每況愈下。
由於討伐安史叛軍的需要，西部的軍隊大部被撤回，吐蕃乘虛深入內地，大舉攻唐，占領了陝西風翔以西，分州以北的十餘州，廣德元年（公元763年）十月，又占領了奉天（今陝西乾縣），兵臨長安城下，嚇得代宗逃到陝州避難。於是，吐蕃兵占領了長安，他們把唐宗室廣武王李承宏立為皇帝，作為自己的統治工具，縱兵焚掠，長安被洗劫一空。
關鍵時刻，代宗倉促啓用郭子儀為副元帥（雍王李適為挂名元帥），迎擊吐蕃。郭子儀積極組織兵力反擊吐番。命令長孫全緒率二百騎出陝西藍田，白天擊鼓揚旗，夜晚點火以為疑兵。同時又以數百人化裝潛入長安，組織城裏人到處傳說：“郭令公（即子儀）親率大軍來了！”吐番兵驚恐，不戰而走，全部撤離長安。陷落15天的長安被唐軍收復。
公元763年十二月，代宗回到長安，郭子儀伏地請罪，代宗說道：“朕沒有及早用卿，所以纔到這種地步。”便賜給他鐵券（免死牌），在凌煙閣為他畫像，以表彰他的興唐之功。長孫全緒等也被加官進爵。同時削免程元振官爵，放歸田裏。
自安史之亂後，唐王朝內部矛盾重重，一波未平，一波又起，廣德元年（公元763年），僕固懷恩叛唐，永泰元年（公元765年）八月，僕固懷恩引吐蕃、回紇等共30萬大軍，約期從華陰趨赴藍田，直取長安。京師震恐，代宗急召郭子儀，屯駐長安北面的涇陽城，此間僕固懷恩暴病於軍中。郭子儀單騎親說回紇，大破吐蕃，使唐王朝又一次傳危為安。
平定安史之亂有功的唐朝名將郭子儀之子郭曖娶了唐代宗的女兒升平公主為妻。一次，小夫妻發生口角，郭曖氣憤之下打了皇帝的金枝玉葉，急不擇言地說：“你倚仗你父親是皇帝嗎？我父親還不願意當皇帝呢？”聽了這句大逆不道之言，公主哭着回宮告狀。聞聽此言，代宗勸女兒道：“他父親不愛當皇帝是實情，要不然，天下哪裏還姓李！”面對負荊請罪的郭氏父子，代宗安慰道：“兒女閨房瑣事，何必計較，老大人權作耳聾，當沒聽見這回事算了。”郭子儀謝過皇恩，回傢後還是把兒子痛打一頓，小兩口又和好如初了。
公元779年5月，代宗病重，急忙詔令太京攝政，不久病死於長安宮中的紫宸內殿。
