【代宗生平】
唐代宗李豫，原被封为广平王。后进封为楚王。马嵬坡事变后，他随肃宗北上，任为“兵马大元帅”，统帅诸将收复两京，公元758年被立为皇太子。起初，肃宗皇后张良娣与宦官李辅国互相利用，后来却有嫌隙。张皇后想杀李辅国，废掉太子李豫立自己的儿子。公元762年4月，李辅国与程元振将张皇后杀死。肃宗因此被惊死，李辅国于同月拥立他为帝，改年号为“宝应”。
唐代宗继位后，李辅国以立帝有功，恃此骄横。竟然对代宗说：“陛下只须深居宫中，外面的政事有老奴来处理。代宗虽然心中不满，但慑于他手握兵权，只好委曲求全，尊称他为尚父（可尊尚的父辈），事无大小，都要与他商量后才能决定。不久，代宗乘李辅国不备，派人扮作盗贼刺杀了李辅国，然后假装下令追捕盗贼，并派宫中使者慰问其家属。
此前，安史叛军再次发生内乱，史思明杀安庆绪，自称大燕皇帝，并于公元759年五月，从李光弼手中，夺取了洛阳，史思明占据洛阳不久，就被自己的儿子史朝义所杀。
宝应元年（公元762年）十月代宗任命雍王李适为统兵元帅、朔方节度使仆固怀恩为副元帅，又向回纥借兵十万，攻打再次被叛军占据的东京洛阳，史朝义败走莫州（今天河北任丘北），史朝义部将李宝臣、李怀仙、田承嗣等率部相继向唐军投降。广德元年(公元763年)正月，史朝义在众叛亲离的情况下上吊自杀，自此，唐朝完全平定了延续七年零三个月的安史之乱。但是，经过这次战乱，唐朝元气大伤，由强盛转为衰落。东有藩镇割据，西有吐蕃侵扰，北有回纥以马匹高价交换的困难局面。代宗又迷信佛教，怂恿寺院占有许多良田美宅，国家财政经济每况愈下。
由于讨伐安史叛军的需要，西部的军队大部被撤回，吐蕃乘虚深入内地，大举攻唐，占领了陕西风翔以西，分州以北的十余州，广德元年（公元763年）十月，又占领了奉天（今陕西乾县），兵临长安城下，吓得代宗逃到陕州避难。于是，吐蕃兵占领了长安，他们把唐宗室广武王李承宏立为皇帝，作为自己的统治工具，纵兵焚掠，长安被洗劫一空。
关键时刻，代宗仓促启用郭子仪为副元帅（雍王李适为挂名元帅），迎击吐蕃。郭子仪积极组织兵力反击吐番。命令长孙全绪率二百骑出陕西蓝田，白天击鼓扬旗，夜晚点火以为疑兵。同时又以数百人化装潜入长安，组织城里人到处传说：“郭令公（即子仪）亲率大军来了！”吐番兵惊恐，不战而走，全部撤离长安。陷落15天的长安被唐军收复。
公元763年十二月，代宗回到长安，郭子仪伏地请罪，代宗说道：“朕没有及早用卿，所以才到这种地步。”便赐给他铁券（免死牌），在凌烟阁为他画像，以表彰他的兴唐之功。长孙全绪等也被加官进爵。同时削免程元振官爵，放归田里。
自安史之乱后，唐王朝内部矛盾重重，一波未平，一波又起，广德元年（公元763年），仆固怀恩叛唐，永泰元年（公元765年）八月，仆固怀恩引吐蕃、回纥等共30万大军，约期从华阴趋赴蓝田，直取长安。京师震恐，代宗急召郭子仪，屯驻长安北面的泾阳城，此间仆固怀恩暴病于军中。郭子仪单骑亲说回纥，大破吐蕃，使唐王朝又一次传危为安。
平定安史之乱有功的唐朝名将郭子仪之子郭暧娶了唐代宗的女儿升平公主为妻。一次，小夫妻发生口角，郭暧气愤之下打了皇帝的金枝玉叶，急不择言地说：“你倚仗你父亲是皇帝吗？我父亲还不愿意当皇帝呢？”听了这句大逆不道之言，公主哭着回宫告状。闻听此言，代宗劝女儿道：“他父亲不爱当皇帝是实情，要不然，天下哪里还姓李！”面对负荆请罪的郭氏父子，代宗安慰道：“儿女闺房琐事，何必计较，老大人权作耳聋，当没听见这回事算了。”郭子仪谢过皇恩，回家后还是把儿子痛打一顿，小两口又和好如初了。
公元779年5月，代宗病重，急忙诏令太京摄政，不久病死于长安宫中的紫宸内殿。
