楚國

楚頃襄王，簡稱楚襄王，姓名
熊橫，楚懷王之子。
熊橫為太子時，曾經在齊國當人質。前299年楚懷王被秦國扣留後，齊湣王讓
熊橫返回楚國，楚人立
熊橫為王，是為楚頃襄王。頃襄王元年（前298年），秦國知道楚國另立新君後，發兵攻楚，大敗楚軍，斬首五萬，取十六城。
楚頃襄王在位期間，淫樂無度，“群臣相女石以功，諂諛用事”。頃襄王十九年（前280年），秦伐楚，楚軍敗，割上庸、漢北地予秦。
次年秦分兵兩路攻楚，一路由武安君白起率軍攻陷楚之鄧城後，嚮鄢（今湖北宜城東南）進逼；另一路由秦蜀郡守張若率水陸之軍東下，嚮楚國的巫郡及江南地進軍。白起圍攻鄢，鄢之戰，楚國軍民數十萬人被溺死，當時白起引西山長𠔌水，水潰城東北角，“百姓隨水流，死於城東者數十萬，城東皆臭，因名其陂為臭池。”（《水經註·沔水》）
秦昭襄王詐以公主許配給楚頃襄王，屈原長跪城外力諫不果。秦軍趁頃襄王開城迎親，長驅直進，攻入楚都郢，時為前278年。屈原投河自盡。頃襄王遷都於陳。前263年秋，頃襄王去世。
