外丙，姓子名外丙，一名胜，甲骨文作“
卜丙”，亦称外壬。商汤的次子。《史记·殷本纪》记载：“汤崩，太子太丁未立而卒，于是乃立太丁之弟外丙，是为帝外丙。”因为太子太丁早死，儿子太小，所以就立了外丙。
外丙即位后，仲虺、伊尹二相继续辅政，以宽治民。外丙尊商汤为“宗汤”，给予了隆重的祭祀。《礼记·祭法》说：“商人祖契而宗汤。”甲骨文中有不少祭祀太丁的记载，因为太丁是商汤的长子，虽然没有继位，但仍然作为直系的先王之一奉祀于祖庙。
“外丙即位三年，崩”，传位与仲壬。
