略历
反正5年（410年）1月，反正天皇在未立皇太子的情况下驾崩。群臣商讨后欲推举雄朝津间稚子宿祢尊为天皇，不过本人以健康理由辞退。皇位维持空位。
允恭元年（412年）12月、在忍坂大中姫的强烈请求下即位。
3年，自新罗请来医者为天皇治病。
4年（415年）9月、因氏族故意假借贵族之姓，特以飞鸟甘樫丘的盟神探汤（古传之占卜法,或手入沸水沸泥,或置烧斧于掌，皆见其手有否溃伤之状，用以占凶吉，辨是非。）以辨真伪，将诸氏族的氏姓拨乱反正。
24年（435年）、前年木梨轻皇子立为皇太子、却与同母妹轻大娘皇女通奸。以占卜判明后，轻大娘皇女被流放到伊豫（→衣通姫伝说）。
42年（453年）1月驾崩。新罗王派遣八十乐人为使者致祭。崩年78岁（古事记），另有一说为81岁（日本书纪北野本）。
