在我國新聞學界，最權威的新聞定義，是1943年陸定一提出的，“新聞的定義，就是新近生事實的報道。”長江也對新聞下一個定義，“新聞就是大群衆欲知應知而未知的重要事實”。王中教授引入傳播學概念，把新聞定義為“新近變動的事實的傳”。另外甘惜分教授把新聞定義為“報道或評述最新的重要事實以影響輿論的特殊手段”。
新聞的特點
儘管新聞類型有多，但它們都有共同的特點。主要是：真、實、強、短、快、活。
1、“新聞”一詞誕生於唐代。
