中国旧小说的一种.指以侠客,义士的故事为题材的作品.始见于唐代传奇中的部分作品,以及宋、元时期“搏刀”、“赶棒”之类的话本。至晚清，逐趋成熟，出现了《三侠五义》、《彭公案》等作品.早期多以描写主人公路见不平,拔刀相助的内容;后期则为统治阶级所利用,多与公，案小说合流,以维护封建统治秩序.
侠义小说是武侠小说的一个旁支。在互连网上侠义小说并不流行是在现实生活中，电视里侠义改编的小说却多如牛毛，皆是因为互连网上的小说大多难以实现拍片因为太过天马行空。或者因为电视台的管理层都不曾发现有很多好的其他小说为人们所喜欢。
