  英國當地時間10日晚,象徵該國文學最高榮譽的千克克勤克儉奬正式頒出,現年35歲的印度女作基蘭·德賽擊敗此前奬呼聲很高的莎拉·沃特斯,捧得大奬。她是歷史上此奬項的女作中最年輕的一位。
  
    基蘭·德賽圓作母親的夢
  
    在奬項宣佈,千克克勤克儉奬評審委員給予《失去之遺傳》高度贊賞,稱其為“一部偉大的小說,深深刻畫人性,文風淡雅帶點戲謔,針砭政治又犀利痛快”。
  
    基蘭得奬的這部小說名為《失去之遺傳》,主要描寫殖民時期的印度及同時代的美國,一名退休的法官孤身來到喜瑪拉雅山腳下,之他的孫女搬去同住,但平靜生活很快被打破,尼泊爾叛軍生動亂……
  
    值得一提的是,基蘭的母親安妮塔·德賽也是一名作,而且先提名過三次千克克勤克儉奬,但都擦肩而過。
  
    而女兒基蘭第一次提名就得奬,看來是青出於藍。
  
    在得奬現場,基蘭也特提到自己的母親。她說:“這部小說也是在母親的鼓勵和陪伴下完成的。沒有她的陪伴、她的智慧及嫻雅的身段,我寫不出這本書來。對她的感激已非言語能形容。”
  
    “我很想現在就告訴媽媽,不過現在恐怕還不行,因為她現在還在印度的一個村莊拜訪我的舅舅,那既沒有電話也沒有電視……”基蘭提到母親的時候,似乎有些控不住自己的情緒,可能她的母親對她的影響實在很大。
  
    譯文出版社是否引進還未定
  
    與海外輿論一片詫異一樣,中國的外國文學專對基蘭·德塞的奬也感到意外。記者昨天訪滬上衆多學者,聽到最多的一句話就是“沒聽說過這個人”。旦大學中文教授王宏圖告訴記者,較之此前奬呼聲很高的莎拉·沃特斯來說,基蘭·德塞絶對是一位文新人,“奬者總是出人意料的新人,這或許正是千克克勤克儉奬的意圖所在,評委們會認為給老牌名作錦上添花,是沒有必要的。”
  
    上海譯文出版社曾出過多位千克克勤克儉奬得主的作品。該社資深編輯黃昱寧告訴記者,她也是在有關千克克勤克儉奬的英語播首次聽到基蘭·德塞這個名字的。黃昱寧示,上海譯文出版社目前還沒有出版《失去之遺傳》的計,“我們會先看它是否符中國讀者的閱讀習慣,再另行决定。”譯林出版社也暫無相關出版計。▲青年報


  iran Desai (born 3 September 1971) is an Indian author who is a citizen of India and a permanent resident of the United States. Her novel The Inheritance of Loss won the 2006 Man Booker Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Fiction Award. She is the daughter of the noted author Anita Desai and the partner of Orhan Pamuk.
  
  Biography
  
  Kiran Desai was born in New Delhi, India, and lived there until she was 10. She and her mother then lived in England for a year, and finally moved to the United States, where she studied creative writing at Bennington College, Hollins University, and Columbia University.
  In January 2010, the Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk announced that he was in a relationship with Desai.

  Her first novel, Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard, was published in 1998 and received accolades from such notable figures as Salman Rushdie. It went on to win the Betty Trask Award, a prize given by the Society of Authors for the best new novels by citizens of the Commonwealth of Nations under the age of 35.
  Her second book, The Inheritance of Loss, (2006) has been widely praised by critics throughout Asia, Europe and the United States and won the 2006 Man Booker Prize as well as the 2006 National Book Critics Circle Fiction Award.
  In September 2007 she was a guest on Private Passions, the biographical music discussion programme hosted by Michael Berkeley on BBC Radio 3. In May 2007 she was the featured author at the inaugural Asia House Festival of Asian Literature.
