东晋
东晋宗室，河内温县（今河南温县西）人。任梁州刺史。桓温伐秦时受命出子午谷策应，一路屡胜，寻为秦苻雄所破。为政酷虐轻杀，谋割据梁州，俟周抚死，据梁州叛，为朱序、周楚内外夹攻，被桓温杀害。
按：东晋的北伐在历史上也是著名的，但是研究的也不全面，往往受封建史观的局限。以简文帝执政时期的北伐为例，在简文帝首次北伐时的三路大军中，东线的征北大将军褚裒初期顺利，攻打到山东的鲁郡，受挫后退兵，敌军一度攻打到合肥；中路收复宛城后也失利，宛城重新陷落，敌军逼近襄阳；只有西路的
司马勋战果显著，他攻入关中后，前锋逼近长安，帮助在关中建立了三十壁垒，组建了五万的关中义军。但是由于东路、中路受挫，桓温在安陆不北上，后来甚至东下武昌。这次北伐陷于困境，还是依靠
司马勋从关中驰援中路，他重新收复了宛城，占领了南阳郡，巩固了中路，在东路依靠谢尚向寿春进攻（他不是受桓温指挥，当时桓温还不是大司马，地位是比司马昱抚军大将军低的征西大将军，无权指挥豫州刺史。）和袁真收复了合肥，基本恢复了淮河以南地区，收复失地。这次北伐总体上是成功的，
司马勋在关中的战果为后来杜洪收复关中打下基础，中路收复了宛城，逼近了许昌和洛阳，东路也恢复了原来的战线。
