个人简介
秦庄襄王为秦孝文王之子，秦王政（秦始皇帝）之父。孝文王死后继位。在位三年，病死。葬于葚。
异人曾在年轻时作为人质居住于赵国都城邯郸，因为秦国屡次攻赵，他的处境很困难。这时，有个卫国大商人吕不韦知道了他的情况，认为他是“奇货可居”，决定进行一次政治赌博，于是，设法结识了他，成为密友。吕不韦用重金买通了太子安国君(秦孝文王)宠爱的华阳夫人，使她劝说安国君立子异人为嫡嗣。为了博得出生于楚国的华阳夫人的欢心，子异人在吕不韦的授意下，改名为楚。公元前250年．秦孝文王继位三天后突然中毒而死，子异人继位。

奇货可居
由于他的母亲并非安国君(当时在位的秦昭襄王世子，即后来的秦孝文王)所宠爱的妃子，加上安国君有儿子二十多人，故被送去赵国为人质，称为“质子”。当时秦赵两国不时交战，故他在赵国为质子之时，受到的待遇很差。当时在赵国的商人吕不韦富甲天下，遇见异人的时候，以为“奇货可居”。吕不韦认为，只要为异人在秦国争取到安国君继承人的地位，他日异人为王，即可使吕不韦的获利不计其数。吕不韦照顾异人，加以栽培，把自己宠爱的歌姬赵姬献给异人，得异人钟爱。吕不韦并为异人到秦国争取安国君所宠爱而没有儿子的华阳夫人欢心，成功令安国君以异人为世子，安国君即位为孝文王一年而驾崩，异人继位为秦王。
庄襄王在位三年，以吕不韦为相国。并立他与赵姬所生的儿子王子赵政为世子。
庄襄王三年（前247年）五月丙午驾崩，享年三十五岁，他突如其来的早逝，有人认为是因为他撞破了吕不韦与赵姬的奸情而被吕不韦所杀。
秦王赵政称皇帝尊号后，追封庄襄王为太上皇。
