前史谓秦焚三代之书，《易》以卜筮而得不焚，及汉募群书，类多散逸，而《易》以故最完。及学者传之，遂分为三：一曰田何之《易》，始自子夏，传之孔子，卦、象、爻、彖与文言、说卦等，离为十二篇，而说者自为章句，《易》之本经也。二曰焦赣之《易》，无所师授，自言得之隐者，第述阴阳灾异之言，不类圣人之经。三曰费直之《易》，亦无师授，专以象、彖、文言等参解卦爻。凡以彖、象、文言杂入卦中者，自费氏始。田何之学，施、孟、梁丘之徒最盛。费氏初微，止传民间。至后汉时，陈元、郑众、康成之徒皆学费氏，费氏兴而田学遂息，古十二篇之《易》遂亡其本。及王弼为注，亦用卦、象相杂之经。自晋已后，弼学独行，遂传至今。然《易》比五经，其来最远。自伏羲画卦，下更三代，别为《三易》。其变卦五十有六，命名皆殊。至于七、八、九、六、筮占之法亦异。周之末世，夏、商之《易》已亡。汉初虽有《归藏》，已非古经，今书三篇，莫可究矣。独有《周易》，时更三圣，世历三古，虽说者各自名家，而圣人法天地之缊则具存焉。
