近来欧西文艺界中，短篇小说很流行。有短至十二三行的。不知道我这一篇也有小说的价值么？
天色已晚，他往街上买柴去了。
回来的时候，他在街道上看见那位二八的月娥，披着件缟素的衣裳，好象是新出浴的一般，笑向着他；月娥旁边还有许多的明眸，也在向他目礼，他默默地望着他们叹道：啊，光呀！爱呀！我要怎样才能够修积得到呀？修积得道的人真是幸福呀！
——喔，K君！你往哪儿去来？
招呼他的人是他的同学N君。他从mantle底下露出一个柴来示N，说道：你又遇着我买柴！N笑。他也笑。他问N，你要往哪儿去？
——往Y君处去耍，你不同去么？
——不，抱起柴拜客？
——你不往那儿去耍么？
——不，我要回去了。
他们在H神社分了手。他又默诵起他自家的诗来。
