铁凝作品特点
铁凝早期作品描写生活中普通的人与事，特别是细腻地描写人物的内心，从中反映人们的理想与追求，矛盾与痛苦，语言柔婉清新。
1986年和1988年先后发表反省古老历史文化、关注女性生存的两部中篇小说《麦秸垛》和《棉花垛》，标志着铁凝步入一个新的文学创作时期。1988年铁凝还写成第一部长篇小说《玫瑰门》，它一改铁凝以往那和谐理想的诗意境界，透过几代女人生存竞争间的较量厮杀，彻底撕开了生活中丑陋和血污的一面。这个时期，铁凝的小说明显地转向对传统文化心理的反思，主题也趋向多义性，手法更富有变化，艺术上保持了以往的风格，笔触又向深沉、冷峻方向发展。
生平
铁凝父为著名画家铁扬，毕业于中央戏剧学院；母亲是声乐教授，毕业于天津音乐学院。
1975年－1979年在河北博野农村插队，期间发表了从处女作《会飞的镰刀》。
1979年回城，在保定地区文联《花山》编辑部任小说编辑。
1982年发表短篇小说《哦，香雪》，获全国优秀短篇小说奖。同年，中篇小说《没有纽扣的红衬衫》获全国优秀中篇小说奖。据此改编的电影《红衣少女》曾获中国电影"金鸡奖""百花奖"最佳故事片奖。
1984年《六月的话题》获全国优秀短篇小说奖。同年，成为河北省文联专业作家。
1985年初，在中国作家协会第4次全国代表大会上当选为理事，是该协会有史以来最年轻的一位理事。
1986年发表中篇小说《麦秸垛》。
1988年发表中篇小说《棉花垛》，发表第一部长篇小说《玫瑰门》。
1994年，长篇小说《无雨之城》由出版，成为畅销书。
1996年10月，当选为河北省作家协会主席。同年底，在中国作家协会第5次全国代表大会上，副主席。
1997年，散文集《女人的白夜》获中国首届"鲁迅文学奖"。
1999年，中篇小说《永远有多远》发表，后获第二届"鲁迅文学奖"，首届"老舍文学奖"。
2000年，长篇小说《大浴女》出版。
2001年，在中国作家协会第6次代表大会上，再次当选为副主席。
2004年，《铁凝日记》出版。
2006年1月，长篇小说《笨花》出版。
2006年11月12日，当选为中国作家协会主席。不过亦有媒体报道，铁凝在全国委员与全委会票选得票数全都倒数第一。
2007年4月26日，50岁的铁凝和比她大3岁的经济学家、燕京华侨大学校长华生在北京结婚。
