John Berger生平
1926年出生在英国伦敦，1944年至1946年第二次世界大战期间在英国陆军服役，退役后进入切尔西艺术与设计学院以及中央艺术学院。他以画家身份开始艺术生涯，他的小说《G.》荣获1972年布克奖，在1940年代末期在伦敦的美术馆能看到他的作品。慢慢地他成为了一名艺术评论家，开始在《新政治家》上发表多篇散文和评论。1958年出版第一部小说《我们时代的一位画家》。他最为出名的著作是一本艺术批判散文《观看之道》，它作为BBC系列的伴读，常常被用于大学教材材料。
约翰·伯格在法国居住了超过半个世纪。2017年1月2日在法国郊区家里去世，享耆寿90岁。
