曾三歐・亨利短篇小說奬的美國著名作杜魯門・卡波特（Truman Capote，1924 -1984）出生於新奧爾良，由於母親是個“少女媽媽”，生下他時17歲，所以卡波特出生不久就被寄養到阿拉巴馬州的親戚，直到9歲被改嫁到紐約的母親及有錢的繼父正式收養。他天資聰慧，5歲能文,12歲作文比賽奬,但17歲卻從高中輟學,在社會上闖蕩。
因為異樣的童年遭遇使卡波特敏感、反叛而早熟，不願意上大學走普通人的道路，而是去著名的文學刊物《紐約客》雜志做小工。慢慢地，他開始在雜志上外表電表作品，短篇小說《米亞姆》（Miriam）得歐・亨利奬，也為他贏得出版商的註意，隨出版茶几本較有反響的小說集。作為一個公開的同性戀，他寫作之外的另一大愛好就是社交。紐約名流圈聚會的生活細節被他寫進中篇小說《在蒂法尼進早餐》，獲得極大成功。
卡波特一直在尋找機會嘗試新的寫作手法，希望創造出一種文，能夠把他的小說技巧和新聞報道的時效性結在一起。

杜魯門·賈西亞·卡波特（英語：Truman Garcia Capote，音為 /ˈtruːmən kəˈpoʊti/；1924年9月30日－1984年8月25日），本名杜魯門·史崔福斯·珀森斯，是一位美國作，著有多部經典文學作品，包括中篇小說《第凡內早餐》 (1958) 與《冷血》 (1965) 。
在《冷血》一書中，卡波特開創“真實罪行”類紀實文學，被公認是大衆文化的里程碑。兩次獲得歐·亨利短篇小說奬。
1924年生於新奧爾良，他自幼父母離異，17歲便高中輟學，受雇於《紐約客》開始寫作生涯。
2005年好萊塢在大銀幕上再現這位傳奇作寫作《冷血》的經，該片為菲利普·塞默·霍夫曼贏得奧斯卡影帝。 

Truman Garcia Capote (/kəˈpoʊti/; born Truman Streckfus Persons, September 30, 1924 – August 25, 1984) was an American novelist, short story writer, screenwriter, playwright, and actor. Several of his short stories, novels, and plays have been praised as literary classics, including the novella Breakfast at Tiffany's (1958) and the true crime novel In Cold Blood (1966), which he labeled a "nonfiction novel". His works have been adapted into more than 20 films and television dramas.

Capote rose above a childhood troubled by divorce, a long absence from his mother, and multiple migrations. He had discovered his calling as a writer by age 8, and he honed his writing ability throughout his childhood. He began his professional career writing short stories. The critical success of "Miriam" (1945) attracted the attention of Random House publisher Bennett Cerf and resulted in a contract to write the novel Other Voices, Other Rooms (1948). Capote earned the most fame with In Cold Blood (1966), a journalistic work about the murder of a Kansas farm family in their home. Capote spent six years writing the book, aided by his lifelong friend Harper Lee, who wrote To Kill a Mockingbird (1960).
