西蒙·波娃，1908年1月9日生於巴黎。幼年在枯燥閉鎖的家庭環境中度過。1925年考入索邦大學攻讀哲學，結識存在主義大師薩特，成為他的終生伴侶。
1943年，她的《女賓客》一書世，受到讀者的喜愛，當年被提名為法國龔古爾文學奬。從此，她走上專業作之路。1949年，她的《第二性》出版，褒貶各半，但獲得世界承認。她的長篇小說《名士風流》(1954) 獲得法國龔古爾文學奬。
1955年9月，薩特和波娃曾來中國訪問，寫《長》一書。
1986年4月14日逝世。
Simone Lucie Ernestine Marie Bertrand de Beauvoir, called Simone de Beauvoir (French pronunciation: [simɔn də boˈvwaʁ]; January 9, 1908 – April 14, 1986), was a French writer, existentialist philosopher, feminist, Marxist, Maoist and social theorist. She wrote novels, monographs on philosophy, politics, and social issues, essays, biographies, and an autobiography in several volumes. She is now best known for her metaphysical novels, including She Came to Stay and The Mandarins, and for her 1949 treatise The Second Sex, a detailed analysis of women's oppression and a foundational tract of contemporary feminism. She is also noted for her lifelong polyamorous relationship with Jean-Paul Sartre.
