Mao Amin was born in a Shanghai worker's family in 1963. In 1983, she became a staff worker at Shanghai Dye-Chemical Mill. In 1985, she was recruited into the army and became the soloist in the Frontline Troupe of Nanjing Military Area and the soloist at Song and Dance Company of the General Political Department. Mao Amin has won various prizes and awards such as: the Third Prize at the Competition for the young singers among the PLA; the First Prize at the Competition for the young singers in Jiangsu Province in the same year. Her singing The Affection of the Green Leaves to the Root won the Third Prize on the Ulgoslavian International Music Festival in 1987, this awarding is the first time for a Chinese pop singer having won a prize in an international pop competition, which has also established her a base in the field. From then on, she has appeared for many times in the Spring Festival Gala Concerts on CCTV, moreover, with her premiere, lots of songs for TV dramas such as: Longing for, The Affection of the Green Leaves to the Root, The Shadow of the Waltted Wall, Thirsting for, Woman is not the Moon, Don’t Forget the Sentiment Tonight, Good Luck—Beijing, Glory and Dream, Promise, Mun in the Candle Light, The Same Song and so on, became known to every household and very popular among the public, with her accheivement, she has become one of the leading singers in Chinese pop music.
With a sweet voice, her artistic charm, and her glamour stage image, her conqued the audiences. In recent years, she has sung Woman, Peaceful and Tranquil Song, Loyalty without Regret, Hope and some other songs with more matured interpretation, her singing has won the high opinions. She was elected a deputy to the National Youth Association.
In 2000, Mao Amin became a member of China Musicians Association. On March 23 2001, she was choosen in the Top Billborad of 2000 Chinese Pop Music held by Beijing Radio and honored the awarded of Outstanding Achievement. In June 2001, she was choosen as the 2001 inland outstanding musician by CCTV and American MTV.
In December 2001, Mao Amin was elected a deputy of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles.
