林爽文事件  (1756年～1788年)

　　林爽文，（1756年－1788年），原籍中国福建漳州平和。1773年随其父亲到台湾，定居彰化县大里杙庄（今台中县大里市）。1784年加入天地会，之后成为彰化天地会首领，1787年曾发动林爽文事件，失败后被捕遭清政府于北京审讯判决凌迟处死。
　　
　　今日，位于南投县中寮乡爽文村、爽文国中、爽文国小以及台中县大里市爽文路皆以他为名。另外，国民政府接管台湾之初，有计划地将嘉义市改名爽文市纪念，后来此计划并无实施。
