　　窩闊（Ögedei / Ögädäi / Ögedäi，1186年－1241年）是成吉思汗的第三子。在1229年的庫爾大會中被推舉為繼任人，管理整個蒙古帝國。他在任內繼續父親的遺志擴張領土，主要是繼續西和南下中原。他在位期成功完全服中亞和華北。政治方面，以遼人耶律楚材為相，一改以往不降屠城作風，保存不少金國遺民，同時又以其建議，提拔漢人為官，整頓內治。因而使蒙古在華北地區的地位更形鞏固，同時在戰得到一定程度的恢性展，為日忽必烈滅宋打下基礎。忽必烈即位，追尊窩闊為元太宗。
　　
　　他在位的期間，蒙古於1234年與南宋聯手消滅金國。但與此同時，由於與南宋接壤，使雙方的衝突日漸加劇，也拉開雙方往45年不斷爭戰的序幕。在南方戰綫僵持不下之時，蒙古大軍的鐵蹄轉往東方的高麗，使他們臣服，西綫方面，以拔都為首的欽察汗國，完全控受不了波斯，繼續西進，占領除諾夫哥羅德以外俄羅斯的全部，以及波蘭和匈牙利的全境。
　　
　　1241年，窩闊因為酗酒而突然暴斃，使他的西進程被逼中止。當時大軍正朝往維也納推進，但為趕返參加位於蒙古的庫爾大會而急忙撤軍，自此以，蒙古大軍再也沒有踏足這片土地。
　　
　　窩闊死五年，一直都由他的皇后乃馬真專政，直到他的兒子貴由繼任為止。
