　　(885～926)，中國後唐開國皇帝，軍事統帥。出生於晉陽（今山西太原西南），沙陀部人。唐河東晉王李剋用之子。善騎射，少時隨父出徵凱旋，唐昭宗授檢校司空、隰州刺史。後梁開平二年(908),襲晉王位。面對後梁、契丹的威脅，他翦除企圖篡權的叔父李剋寧，繼而領兵擊退圍潞州（今山西長治）之梁軍。他采取舉賢、減稅、安民等措施，治理河東，並把以沙陀部人為骨幹的軍隊，整頓成為一支勁旅。針對當時藩鎮割據之勢，他先聯合成德、義武（治今河北正定、定縣）兩鎮以對抗後梁，待晉力量壯大後，滅大燕，兼併成德、義武兩鎮。後梁竜德三年(923)四月,在魏州（今河北大名東北）稱帝，建後唐,改元同光。後唐同光元年(923)十月，親率大軍奇襲汴州（今河南開封），滅亡後梁。三年，滅前蜀。後唐統治確立後，他心滿志驕，大修宮殿，疑忌將臣，親信宦官，優寵伶人，日趨腐敗。四年，劉皇后密令太子李繼岌殺害謀臣郭崇韜，激起魏州等地兵變，李存勖在洛陽，因親軍嘩變，中流矢而死。
　　
　　後唐莊宗李存勖（885年－926年），李剋用之子。沙陀人，本姓朱邪氏，小名“亞子”，923年在魏州（河北大名府）稱帝，國號唐，史稱後唐。以勇猛聞名。
　　
　　生平
　　章回小說指李存勖與其他李剋用的兒子合稱“十三太保”，本來是唐末的將領。後來因為不滿朱溫篡唐而與之對抗。李存勖的用兵勇猛，使朱溫大驚，他說：“生子當如李亞子，剋用為不亡矣！至如吾兒，豚犬耳！” (譯文:生子就要生像李亞子(李存勖)這樣的人，所以李剋用就不會滅亡啊！像我的兒子，個個豬狗不如呀！) （《資治通鑒》266）
　　
　　開平二年（908年）正月，李剋用病死，李存勖繼承其父李剋用遺志，不但打敗契丹，攻破燕地，並且消滅劉守光與劉仁恭父子的割據，並且於923年消滅後梁，統一北方，在魏州（河北大名縣西）稱帝，國號為唐。李存勖還收降了李茂貞建立的岐，並消滅王建所建立的前蜀。
　　
　　到了晚年，就與唐玄宗一樣，自認為這輩子都在拼命，到晚年應該好好休息一下，遂荒廢朝政。李存勖自幼喜歡看戲、演戲，常粉墨登場，並自命藝名“李天下”。伶人大受皇帝寵幸，李存勖又派伶人、宦官搶民女入宮，強擄魏州將士們妻女千餘人，怨聲四起。
　　
　　後唐同光四年（926年），皇甫暉在鄴都叛亂，李存勖命李嗣源前往討伐，石敬瑭也一同出徵。在魏州城下，李嗣源的部隊發生兵變，與魏州的叛軍合兵一處，擁立李嗣源。李嗣源占據大梁（今河南開封），進軍洛陽，先鋒石敬瑭帶兵逼進汜水關（河南滎陽汜水鎮），李存勖决定親徵。
　　
　　這時擔任指揮使的伶人郭從謙趁機叛變，火燒興教門，存勖被流箭射中，王全斌將其扶至絳霄殿，渴懣求飲，宦官奉進酪漿，喝完一杯，遽爾殞命。王全斌大慟而去。一名伶人揀丟棄的樂器放在存勖屍體上，點火焚屍。史稱興教門之變。李嗣源入洛陽殺盡叛臣，葬存勖屍骨於雍陵，在大梁稱帝，是為後唐明宗。
　　
　　評價
　　李存勖在未打下天下前，和後梁血戰十餘年，大小百餘戰，作戰英勇異常。但會打天下，卻不懂得治天下，寵幸伶人，重用宦官，又吝嗇錢財，不懂撫恤士兵，三年即兵變被殺，失敗之速，亦是罕見。
　　
　　北宋歐陽修寫《新五代史·伶官傳序》便是討論李存勖沉溺逸樂、寵信樂官而致亡國的史實，說明“憂勞可以興國，逸豫可以亡身”的歷史規律。
