　　周威烈王(?—前402年)，名姬午，為周考王之子。在位時封晉國大夫韓虔、趙籍、魏斯為韓侯、趙侯、魏侯，此即“三傢分晉”。
　　
　　周威烈王，名姬午(公元前?～前402年)。周考王子。考王死後繼位。在位24年，病死。葬於今河南省洛陽市。
　　周威烈王姬午在位期間的公元前403年，分別册封魏、趙、韓為諸侯國。
　　魏國當時的國君是魏文侯斯，他任用著名政治傢李悝進行改革，使魏國很快富強起來，成為戰國初期的 頭號強國。
　　趙國國君烈侯也任用公孫連等一批賢能之士整頓吏治，提高統治機構效率，節省財政開支，使趙國逐漸強盛起來。
　　公元前402年，姬午病死。姬午死後的廟號為威烈王。
