　　Henry first came to England in 1142 to support the request of his mother on the throne of England. But Matilda ultimately failed to win from the hands of Blois, Stephen throne. However, according to an agreement Stephen and Matilda, Henry was crowned King of England in 1154.
　　1164, when Henry II attempted to recover the church's judicial power also, he and his former close friend and adviser, Archbishop of Canterbury Thomas Becket conflict. Beckett requested the Pope's intervention angered Henry II. December 29, 1170, four baron knights, apparently in support of Henry, the assassination of Becket in Canterbury Cathedral. Pope Alexander III threatened to impose excommunication against Henry II. Henry had to yield, he was asked to repent, and pledged to lead the Crusaders to Palestine.
