　　展漠回到家里时，地下城的巨大太阳灯已由灼白转作暗黄，带来了广阔无匹的地下城的
　　人造黄昏。
　　展漠惯例地在摇椅坐了下来，他属于地下城里的特殊阶级，所住的单位不但位于“中
　　城”的高级大厦，而且设备完善，布置豪华，两厅四房，与居于东南西北四城的贱民比较起
　　来，确有天渊之别。
　　根据最新的人口统计，整个地下城的人口略少于八百万，但东南西北四城却占人口的百
　　分之九十三，住在中城的人都属统治阶层。东、南、西、北、中五城市组成了地下城，除了
　　位于中央的中城有通道通往其他四个城市外，其他城市都是互不相通的，而没有许可证的
　　话，任何人也不能离开身处的城市，违抗地下城最高统领“元帅”命令的人，只有一个结
　　局，就是死亡。
　　展漠轻轻摇动安乐椅，思潮回到今早执行任务时所杀死的那个叛乱分子，那年轻人垂死
　　时望向他的眼睛，其中燃烧着的仇恨仍使他不能释怀。
　　展漠无意识地扬手，好像要将这不愉快的记忆抹去，心里叫道：“展漠你怎么了？你是
　　地下城最优秀的战士，早向元帅宣誓无条件地效忠，毫不犹豫去执行每个交下来的命令。叛
　　徒都是该死的，他们要破坏地下城的和平，杀死他们是最正义的事，为何还要去想？”
　　他按动摇控器，整块墙壁立时变换成电视的画面，著名的地下城首席女歌星仙蒂在一群
　　惹火的女郎衬托歌载舞，极尽视听之娱。
　　“叮！”门铃响起。展漠大奇，这是上床的时间了，谁会来找他？一按遥控器，房门立
　　时打了开来，几乎同一时间，几名手持武器的大汉冲了进来，展漠本能地弹起，腹部已重重
　　地给人用枪嘴捅了一下。
　　展漠痛得跪了下来。两枝枪嘴一抵后颈一抵前胸，以强壮见称的展漠猝不及防下先机尽
　　失，受制于人。
　　这群身穿深蓝色滚红边的轻便盔甲，只露两只眼睛，表示他们是元帅的私人秘警，比展
　　漠所属的军卫系统更有权势，因为他们是元帅的私人保镖、左右手，等闲不理城中的事，若
　　非是关系重要，想见他们一面也不是易事。
　　展漠叫道：“我是军卫统领展漠，这算是什么？”一个阴沉的声音在门口响起道：“展
　　漠！你的叛徒同党将你供出来了。”
　　展漠愕然道：“同党？”
　　一个高个子穿便装的秘警踏进门内，铁青的长脸一点表情也没有，两只眼却射出凌厉的
　　神色，盯进展漠眼里。
　　展漠叫道：“是你！洛高。”他明白了，这是公报私仇，洛高以前也是军卫里的高级军
　　官，是唯一有能力和展漠竞争军卫最高职位统领一职的人物，不过洛高输了，统领的位给展
　　漠坐了，洛高愤然离去，利用他和秘警指挥沙达查的关系，加入了地下城最令人惊惧的秘
　　警，这人数虽及不上达八万人军卫队的十分之一，但训练和武器都是最精良，专责执行元帅
　　的秘密指令。
　　展漠坦然不惧道：“洛高，我不怕你，单凭叛党的口供，元帅是不会相信的，你是没有
　　其他的证据。”洛高眼中闪耀着残酷兴奋的光芒，像饿猫看到了老鼠，阴森的道：“证据？
　　快有了。”跟着向屋内其他七名秘警喝道：“搜！”
　　秘警毫不客气地大搜起来。
　　展漠心中扎实，自问忠心耿耿，洛高能搜出什么来。
　　一名秘警叫起来道：“搜到了！”展漠愕然望去，一名秘警手上拿着一样奇异的东西。
　　展漠脑中轰然一震，乱成一片。
　　这是栽赃嫁祸，什么人将这十恶不赦的东西放在这里？混乱中他竭力去想，脑中却是空
　　白一片。谁曾到过他的家里来？除了今早沈漫曾来邀他共进早餐，可是沈漫是他最好的朋
　　友，怎会陷害他？
　　洛高从秘警手中接过那“东西”，放在眼前端详，嘿嘿笑道：“这是什么？”
　　展漠叹了一口气，这种东西以前的人叫作“书”，是原始传递思想和知识的工具，不过
　　早在地下城建成的五十年前已被当时统一了大地的首任元帅列为违禁品，任何人匿藏有这种
　　叫“书”的东西，均会被处以极刑。
　　现代的知识传播已被“离子传知机”代替，人脑只需和传知机接上，就可以得到所有知
　　识，而知识是由地下城政府严密控制的，没有人可以获得“多余”的知识。
　　今早他以扫描器查探在东城配给中心的行人时，正因他发现那年轻人身上藏有一本
　　“书”，追捕时才将那青年击毙，现在却给人在自己家里找了一本出来，这是否叫因果循
　　环？不过他还未绝望，以他为地下城立下的汗马功劳和清白的出身，元帅一定会给他一个公
　　道，洛高这种小人只能得意一时，正义将是永恒的。洛高道：“大统领，没话可说了吧。”
　　展漠淡淡道：“我要见元帅。”
　　洛高哼道：“解除他的武装。”
　　两名秘警逼了上来，将他身上的武器装置一股脑儿搜了出来，到了安装在腰围能放射
　　“死光”的“力场带”时，停了下来。
　　力场带是地下城里最惊人的武器。
　　只有元帅本人、秘警指挥沙达查和军卫统领展漠才享有配带的荣誉。
　　洛高道：“这力场带只有元帅才能解开，先给我锁好他。”
　　展漠心中盘算，这或者是他最后的反击机会。一旦双手被锁，他便不能再利用力场带发
　　出的死光，予敌人致命的反击。
　　可是直到双手被反锁背后，他始终没有反抗，因为他深信正义无私的元帅将会还他一个
　　清白。
　　洛高笑了起来，一直紧提的心这刻才放松下来，看着展漠被反锁的双手，心中已憧憬着
　　元帅将配在展漠腰间象征着无穷威力和荣誉的力场带赐给他时的风光。
　　“走！”展漠被押在中间，离开家门。
　　步出升降机，高达二十层的大厦门前停了四辆黑色的装甲车，另八名秘警荷枪实弹，背
　　着光，待在车旁，街上静悄悄的，显见秘警已封锁了远近街道，以方便将他押送，对付他这
　　个位居要职的大人物，没人敢掉以轻心。
　　地下城街道纵横交错，大厦林立，井井有条，在元帅的铁腕统治里，每一个人都规行矩
　　步地生活着。
　　地下城顶可见巨大钢柱构成的骨架，造成奇异的天空，人造太阳高高在上，散射着柔和
　　的黄光。
　　展漠在洛高押送下，向四辆装甲车步去，那守在两头均呈尖锥状装甲车的八名秘警，扬
　　起枪嘴，指着寂静的街道，却没有一人回过头来看正在接近的他们。他们的盔甲闪闪生光，
　　展漠心中一动，这八名秘警有些不妥，因为，在一般情形下，他们理应先转过头来看，除非
　　怕给人看到他们盔甲露出的部分。
　　当他兴起这念头时，异变突起，所有事发生在瞬息之间，八名守在装甲车旁的秘警同时
　　转过身来，八个枪嘴同时指向他们，跟着火光闪烁，一时之间，空气中充斥着火药的气味。
　　展漠身边的秘警纷纷溅血倒地，连洛高也不能幸免。
　　刹那间，只剩下反锁双手的展漠孤零零地站在横七竖八的死尸上。
　　两名秘警扑上来，喝道：“跟我来！”
　　他们将展漠连推带撞拥上了其中一辆装甲车。
　　“轰！”车门关上，马上发动引擎，立即开出。展漠在暗黑的车厢里思潮起伏，一时想
　　不清楚发生了甚么事。
　　车速不断地增加，转弯时将展漠从椅上抛起，几乎跌个四平八稳。二十分钟后车子停了
　　下来，门开，有人在外叫道：“统领！下来吧。”
　　展漠无奈下车，车外是个室内的环境，暗黑一片，他这一生还是首次如此脓包，任人鱼
　　肉，蓦地强光亮起，将他照个纤毫毕现。
　　他很想举起双手遮眼，可是双手却给反锁在后，唯有眯起眼睛环视四周，只见人影幢
　　幢，最少三、四十人围着他。
　　展漠叫道：“你们是谁？”
　　一个声音响起：“我们就是元帅所谓的叛党。”
　　展漠全身一震，他已认出了说话的是谁。
　　他惊呼道：“沈漫！”留着短胡子的沈漫大步来到他面前，深深地望进他眼里。
　　展漠不能置信地道：“是你！”
　　沈漫道：“是我，正是我，你的好朋友嘛。”
　　展漠只觉热血上涌，自己一向信任的唯一好友和得力下属，正是出卖自己的人，是自己
　　深切痛恨的叛乱份子。
　　沈漫道：“就是我将那部书放在你的家里，我们牺牲了一个兄弟，才使沙达查相信你是
　　我们的一份子。”
　　展漠怒吼一声，一脚当胸踢向沈漫去。
　　沈漫灵活退后，避开对方当胸踢来的一脚。
　　四枝枪嘴同时抵在展漠身上。
　　展漠悲叫道：“为甚么？你有得是接近我的机会，为何不把我干掉，却要陷害我？”
　　沈漫眼中闪过一丝莫名的悲哀，低沉地道：“若可以选择的话，谁愿意伤害别人？在这
　　里的每一个人都是迫不得已，就像笼中的鸟被剥夺了自由，在地下城中的每一个人都被剥夺
　　了思想和行动的自由，屈服在元帅的庞大统治机器下。”他愈说愈激动，到最后是声嘶力竭
　　地叫喊出来，一向深沉冷静的沈漫，像火山喷熔岩般将心里的悲愤表达出来。
　　展漠呆了一呆，道：“可是真正的‘自由’将地面上的世界毁灭了，人类是不懂珍惜自
　　由的，自由只是纷乱的一个好听名字，在这里虽然没有自由，却有生存所必须的秩序与和
　　平，那亦是我的职责。”
　　一个清冷但动听的女声切入道：“你中毒太深了，鸟儿生出来是要翱翔长空的，那是与
　　生俱来的本能，人类生出来便要自由自在去思想，去享受生命的经验，假设人不准思想，就
　　像鸟儿再不能飞翔，那是违反人性的。而且只有统治者能思想，而不准被统治者思想，那是
　　令人最可厌的极权统治，历史证明了那只能带来苦难。”
　　展漠向说话的女子望去，在强光耀目里，隐约看到一个修长美好的苗条身形。愕然道：
　　“历史？”这对他是个非常新鲜的名词，在地下城里，没有人知道过去的事，除了政府通过
　　传真机送进脑内那简单的一套，简单得不知是否称得上为“历史”。
　　那女子激动地踏前一步，这次展漠清晰地看到她的脸孔，眉目如画，俏丽异常，尤其是
　　轮廓分明的五官挂着丝说不出的哀愁，更带来一种动人心弦的风韵。她叫道：“蠢蛋！你连
　　知道的自由也被剥夺了。”
　　尽管在激情里，她依然是那样动人，这使从未被人辱骂的展漠觉得好过一点。
　　就在这时，沈漫介绍道：“这位是柏丝蒂小姐，我们这被指为地下城唯一反抗势力的古
　　文字权威，只有她能在最快的时间里破译以前的文字，告诉我们历史的真相。”
　　叛党里步出另一五十来岁的老者，展漠吓得几乎跳了起来，他从未见过这么“老”的
　　人。
　　那老者微微笑道：“奇怪吗？我这么老也没有送进安乐宫去安享晚年。”
　　柏丝蒂道：“那只是元帅的另一个谎言，为了节省食物，所有人在四十五岁后都被送到
　　安乐宫去，但谁知受秘警控制的安乐宫里是何情景，其实进入安乐宫的人不是给立时处死，
　　就是被利用做各种残忍的实验，使元帅能延长他的寿命。这位沈殊先生是唯一从安乐宫逃出
　　来的人，因为在他安乐宫里是负责所有残忍实验的主管，也是他告诉我们事实，将我们组织
　　起来。”
　　沈殊望着睁大眼睛不住喘气的展漠柔和地道：“没有人有权这样对付他的同类，包括元
　　帅和沙达查那恶魔在内。”
　　当他提到沙达查时，每个人都毫不例外泛起恐惧的神色，沙达查可是凶名远播，作为元
　　帅的杀人工具，连展漠这军卫第一把交椅的人物也忌他七分。
　　展漠喘着气道：“这不是真的，你们在说谎，元帅所做的一切，都是为了生存与和平，
　　他很快会将你们一网打尽。”
　　沈殊冷然道：“你说得对，我们虽然有武器，可是在人手方面，可以说少得可怜，在高
　　压统治下，百分之九十九的人都丧失了斗志，而且元帅又在无法突破的重重保护里，将我们
　　一网成擒只是早晚间的事。”
　　展漠叫道：“或者他已在来此的路上。”
　　众人沉默下来，眼中射出恐惧的神色，沙达查的残暴手段，使人思之色变。
　　柏丝蒂冷冷道：“沙达查找上了我们，对你也不是好事。”
　　冷汗沿额流下，展漠全身起了一阵颤抖，一向以来在猫捉鼠的游戏，他都扮演猫的角
　　色，现在却尝到老鼠被捉的滋味，目前这情况，他是跳进黄河也洗不清，况且沙达查公报私
　　仇，可能来个先斩后奏，使他连抗辩的机会也没有。
　　展漠软弱地道：“既然反抗没有用，反抗来做甚么？”
　　柏丝蒂静如深海的秀目凝视着他，好一会才道：“我们并不想对抗，只是想逃出去。”
　　展漠目瞪口呆：“出去？”这个念头即使在睡梦里也没闪过他的神经。
　　四周的叛党呼吸都急促起来，眼中射出热切渴望的神色，就像笼中的鸟憧憬着打开了
　　门，外边是无穷无尽的美丽和自由。
　　柏丝蒂眼神带有忧郁，加重语气道：“是的！我们要逃出去，逃出这人造的大监狱。”
　　最后两句她是嘶叫出来，声音在这室内的空间回荡。
　　展漠颤声道：“但是地面上的自然经历过核战和化学战，空气充斥着毒气，出去是自杀
　　的行为。”
　　柏丝蒂淡淡道：“这只是元帅的另一个谎话，外面从来没有发生过任何战争，只是元帅
　　为了统治永垂万世，强行将所有人迁到这地下监狱里，将所有书籍毁去，使人变成棋子般任
　　凭摆布的白痴，但仍有少部分书籍留了下来，告诉我们另一个故事。”
　　展漠无力抗辩道：“你在说谎！”
　　无论如何他是完蛋了，元帅绝不容许有些许怀疑的人担任军卫统领，他要的是百分之百
　　忠心。
　　“轰”，天摇地动，墙壁倒坍下来。
　　火光闪现，乱枪突袭响起一串枪声。沙达查的人追棕而至，惨叫声中叛党纷纷溅血倒在
　　地上，展漠身边的人软弱地还击。
　　沈漫一拉展漠，叫道：“随我来！”
　　惊惶中展漠跟着沈漫往深黑的一方奔去，旁边还有柏丝蒂、老者沈殊和几名叛党。
　　他们奔进一条长长的通道里，背后枪声不断迫近，展漠身后的人一个接一个倒下，鲜血
　　溅上他的脸，反锁的双手使他走动不便，愈走愈落后。
　　转了三个弯后，只剩下沈漫、柏丝蒂和沈殊四人。
　　一道暗门在左边墙壁打了开来，沈漫向后赶来的展漠叫道：“快！”展漠抢进门里，暗
　　门在身后关上。
　　灯亮了起来，一条通道斜斜往下延伸。
　　展漠喘着气道：“我们逃不了，在沙达查的扫描追踪器下，我们是无所遁形的。”
　　沈殊微笑道：“我们？”
　　展漠愕然，他居然会与叛党共称我们，真是做梦也想不到。
　　柏丝蒂怪责道：“快走！”率先往另一端的暗黑地道奔去。
　　四个人没命狂奔，脚步声在空旷深进的地道激响着，令人心惊胆战，而失去镇定的抑制
　　力。
　　柏丝蒂先停了下来，眼前去路已尽，只有一面冷冰冰的墙壁。展漠矢志逃生，平日的机
　　智冷静恢复过来，估计出沈漫他们若能建造出这条逃命的地道，一定不会逃路至此而尽，那
　　样没道理。照地道斜入的角度，他们最少在地下城水平下的百来米处，要建成这样的地道，
　　又要避过政府无孔不入的秘警和军卫，最少也要数年的时间。
　　柏丝蒂在墙上有节奏地轻轻敲打，不一会头顶传来轧轧的机械响声。
　　高约两米的通道顶移出了一个圆形的小洞，沈漫当先爬上去，展漠望洞兴叹，试问双手
　　反锁的他，如何爬得上去。
　　沈殊是第二个爬上去的人。
　　这时地道另一面已传来细碎却急密的步声，秘警终于发现密道，衔尾追来。
　　沈漫向站在展漠旁的柏丝蒂打了个眼色，柏丝蒂略犹豫，从怀里掏出一根布满纹痕的小
　　管子，插进展漠的手铐里。这是一把磁力钥匙。
　　“啪！”
　　磁力手铐应声而开。
　　追踪而来的脚步声已清晰可闻。
　　这钥匙当然是取自被杀的洛高身上，可见沈漫等人思虑周详。
　　柏丝蒂爬了上去。
　　展漠一展手掌，大为舒畅，他腰上围的力场带是多元化威力惊人的武器，不过却需双手
　　配合操作，一旦恢复自由，便如猛虎出闸，他发誓再不让人锁上双手，包括元帅在内。
　　沈漫将柏丝蒂拉上来后，从通道顶的圆洞探头下来道：“快上来。”蓦然他的脸肌转成
　　僵硬，因为他看到展漠脸上神色变化，忽忧忽喜，显示两个相反的念头正在心中交战着。展
　　漠此时想的是：假若他将这三人擒下，拿去见元帅，是否能洗刷自己的嫌疑？沈漫呆呆地望
　　着他。
　　展漠暗叹一声，爬了上去。
　　圆洞变回通道顶。变成漆黑一片。
　　脚步声在下面轰然响起。
　　“快上来！”
　　展漠循声望去，几乎惊叫起来，原来这上面是另一条向下的通道，一架像子弹般以合成
　　金属制成的水陆车就在眼前，若非车里亮起了暗红的灯，他还看不见。
　　展漠坐进车后的唯一空位，与美丽的柏丝蒂并排，沈漫和沈殊坐前，由沈漫负责驾驶。
　　柏丝蒂冷漠地指示展漠扣上安全带，不知为甚么，她比起其他人更具有敌意。
　　车门关上，缓缓向斜下的通道滑去。
　　沈漫又沉声道：“为何跟来？”
　　展漠知道他指自己早先在爬上顶洞时的犹豫，叹一口气道：“我想到若你是元帅，见我
　　犹豫不决，一定先发制人袭击我，但你却全没有那倾向，这使我重新考虑我信奉的一切。”
　　柏丝蒂冷然道：“看你还有一丁点人性，不过你可能只是怕沙达查公报私仇。”
　　展漠心中大怒，正要反辩，蓬！车子加速滑行，向前俯冲下去。
　　展漠大骇，紧握椅背，车窗外一片漆黑，他们便像往一个无底深渊冲去。
　　车灯熄灭。无穷尽的黑暗，与空气摩擦的压力，使他每根血管都像要爆炸开来一样。
　　嘎！车子冲进了水里，去势逐渐缓慢。
　　展漠不由赞叹设计之妙，这条地下通道的出口是地下城里纵横交错的广阔河道，这确是
　　最佳的逃生方法。
　　这部水陆两用车在河底下二百多米的深处缓缓航行，车子的窗都装置了夜视设备，可以
　　看见河里各种大小生物在畅游，有些比他们的水陆车还大，没有人知道地下城的河水从哪里
　　来，只知永不衰竭，其中的生物提供了城里人百分之六十食物。
　　展漠道：“我们现在哪里？”
　　沈漫按了一个钮，在驾驶仪器板上现出一幅地图，由五个大圆组成，中间的是中城，其
　　他四个大圆是东南西北城，每个圆中都布满蓝色河道，亮着的红点表示他们正在走往东城的
　　河道里潜行。
　　展漠惊叫道：“停下。”沈漫依言按掣，水陆车前端喷射出水流，恰恰把车停下。
　　展漠道：“前面是中城第三街和第八街的交界，设有一个秘密侦查站，这样贸然闯过，
　　一定会被发现。”
　　沈殊紧皱双眉道：“没有时间了，只要沙达查发现密道的出口在河流底，不到一个小时
　　就可以找到我们。”
　　沈漫冷然道：“展漠，这次的行动可能会使我们全军覆没，现在还有的只是我们四个
　　人，假设你也算上一份。”
　　柏丝蒂接口道：“所以，我们一定要完成众人的心愿，就是逃出去。”
　　展漠摇头道：“没有可能的。”
　　沈漫怒声道：“这世上没有事不可能做的，你是军卫的第一号人物，一定知道出口在那
　　里。”
　　展漠苦笑道：“问题是元帅知道我也知道，你说他会不会不在出口处布下陷阱？”
　　沈殊沉静地道：“未必！在杀死洛高的现场我们遗下了一具模拟你的尸体，还配上了假
　　充的力场带，除非元帅亲自拆下力场带，才能知道那是假货，不过那最少在两个小时后，那
　　时元帅正在歌剧院听首席女歌手的音乐演唱会，那女歌手是他最宠幸的女人，没有人可以令
　　他中途离开。”
　　展漠愕然道：“你们倒是计划周详。”
　　沈漫道：“我们的所有希望都在你身上，一是将我们交给元帅，一是带我们逃走。”
　　展漠望向身侧的柏丝蒂，她性感的小嘴唇紧紧抿着！强调了她刚毅不屈的骄傲，使人感
　　到她为了自由不惜牺牲一切的决心，展漠想到翱翔于天上的鸟儿，地下城的鸟儿都给关在公
　　园的大笼子里。
　　一股热血冲上来，展漠叫道：“好！我们誓要逃出去。”
　　沈漫道：“现在要怎么走？”
　　展漠沉吟半晌，迅速在脑中拟定了一个计划，一旦决定了怎样做，他的神经细胞立刻恢
　　复了灵性和活力，他若不是个超卓的战士，如何能在多达八万人的军卫里脱颖而出，攀上最
　　高的位置，也只有他能躲过重重军卫设下的关卡，唯一可能令他落败的，只有沙达查，元帅
　　的私家杀人机器。
　　展漠道：“继续向前驶。”
　　沈殊道：“怎样躲过前面的侦查站？他们的水底雷达，可以毫无困难把我们找出来。”
　　展漠道：“听我指示去做。”
　　水陆车缓慢却稳定地前进。
　　沈漫有点紧张地道：“离侦查站还有四百米。”
　　展漠道：“加速至十节，然后减至五节，停下来，转回头，再转回去，加速向上。”
　　沈漫照着他的指示，水陆车像鱼儿般在水中前进后退，时快时慢。
　　沈殊赞道：“好主意，侦查站的人会以为我们是条大鱼，不过若非是你，也没法知道这
　　办法行不行得通。”
　　展漠忍不住望向身边一直默然无语的柏丝蒂，后者神情冷漠，难知喜怒，展漠因好奇而
　　想问她有关“书”的内容的话，也只好吞回肚里，以免碰上钉子。
　　二十分钟后他们越过了关卡，水陆车在河底贴近河床缓缓推进。
　　沈漫道：“不能快一点吗？”
　　展漠道：“不能！转左。”
　　沈殊惊异地叫道：“那是通往东城的河道。”
　　展漠淡淡道：“正是这样。”
　　沈漫奇道：“难道出口处不是在中城？”
　　展漠道：“就是每个人都那么想，所以出口才不设在中城，而在东城。”
　　水陆车在展漠指点下，重施故技，一连避过了三个侦查站，两小时后，安然进入了东
　　城，这里的水道比中城狭窄，河床也较浅，他们被发现的机会也高起来。
　　展漠道：“奇怪，沙达查应早发现了我们从河道逃去，为何一点动静也没有，所有侦查
　　站都没有加强戒备？转右。”水陆车往右转，潜驶四百多米后，展漠道：“升上水面。”
　　水陆车缓缓上升。
　　离水面十多米处隐约可见东城人造太阳的黄光透入水里。水陆车升上水面，外面静悄悄
　　地，除中城外，其他四城晚上都在戒严令管治下，没有人可以随便在街上走动。
　　一道斜坡从街上斜伸往河道里，水陆车悠然地沿着斜坡驶上寂静无人的街道，转左而
　　去。
