一、姓氏源流
仰（Yǎng）姓源出有二：
1、出自上古虞舜為帝時的大臣仰延之後。仰延精通音樂，當時瑟為八弦，他改造為二十五弦，為一大發明。仰延的後人，以祖上的字為姓，遂成仰姓。
2、出自嬴姓，為秦惠帝之子公子印之後。印，古為仰字的右半部。其支庶子孫以祖字為姓，加一人旁，遂成仰姓。
得姓始祖：仰延。據《呂氏春秋》上記載仰姓是舜時仰延的後代。舜是遠古時候著名的氏族部落首領，他的部落崇拜牛圖騰和鳳圖騰。舜的手下有個大臣叫作仰延，很善於音樂。傳說他發明和改造了很多樂器，特別是弓弦樂器，他將8根弦改為25根弦。他的後代就以仰為姓氏，成為今天仰姓的起源。故仰氏後人奉仰延為仰姓的得姓始祖。
二、遷徙分佈
（缺）仰姓在大陸和臺灣都沒有列入百傢姓前一百位。仰氏傢族是由來已久的，據《萬姓統譜》上記載，早在2000年前的漢朝之時，就已經有一位叫作仰祗的傑出先人，以官拜御史而使仰氏為人所知；另《姓氏考略》上指出，從唐代末年開始，浙江的錢塘和吳興一帶，已經有了姓仰的宗族，並且成為仰姓的望族。望族居汝南郡（今河南省汝南縣東）。
三、歷史名人
仰 延：上古舜帝時的大臣，精通音樂，將當時八弦瑟，改造增為二十五弦。這是一大發明。
仰 忻：宋代孝子，字天貺，永嘉人。力學篤行，年五十餘歲喪母，自己背了土築墳，並且在墓旁建屋守墓，墓旁生白竹，竹上棲有烏鴉，有“慈烏白竹”之瑞。
仰 瞻：明朝著名刑官，於永樂年間任大理丞，以執法嚴明，而得後世年景仰。

據《郡望百傢姓》載，仰氏望出汝南郡。又《姓氏考略》中有記載：望出河南、汝南、錢塘。
河南郡：西漢時始置郡。相當於今河南省洛陽市一帶。
錢塘縣：秦代始置郡。在今浙江省杭州市西。
