Diogenes(第奥根尼)以桶居所,生活极端简朴,被视为像狗一样的生活,乃有Cynic(犬儒)之称。犬儒学派反文明、反社会,对世俗生活冷讽热嘲,因此英语中的Cynic有讥讽、挖苦、冷淡、嫉世之意。
