简介(brief introduction)
[a]明星天池龙是1974年新疆大学地质地理系师生在新疆阜康县三工河地区野外实习时采到的，时代为侏罗纪中期。这是首次在亚洲发现的侏罗纪中期(？)的甲龙类恐龙。由于它的发现，把已发现的甲龙类化石的年代提前到侏罗纪中期(？)。由于化石发现地距有名的天山天池很近，所以董枝明在命名时把它的属名叫做天池龙。根据著名科幻电影导演史蒂文·施皮尔伯格之建议，把它的种名赠与参加电影“侏罗纪公园”演出的六位明星，取译成明星。明星天池龙是一种原始的小型甲龙类，体长约3米，头骨较高，躯体上有许多大小不同、形态各异的膜质甲片，但外却没有甲片覆盖。它有一条长尾巴，尾巴的末端有尾椎愈合而成的小而扁的尾锤。 | | - lat.: Tianchisaurus, Tenchisaurus
