　　汉属会稽。唐属武荣州，开元八年（720）属晋江县。北宋太平兴国六年（981）析晋江县东乡十六里置惠安县，取“以惠安民”之义称惠安。首任知县崔知节。相传初置县时，陈震卜地在螺山之南建县治，迁五代时灵安王张悃之坟于县东南的青山，螺山负邑，又城形如“螺狮吐肉”，故县城称螺城，简称“螺”。
