重陽獨酌杯中酒，抱病起登江上臺。
竹葉於人既無分，菊花從此不須開。
殊方日落玄猿哭，舊國霜前白雁來。

【賞析】：
此詩是大歷二年（767）重九日杜甫在夔州登高之作。詩人聯繫兩年來客寓夔州的現實，抒寫自己九月九日重陽登高的感慨，思想境界和藝術造詣，都遠在一般登高篇什之上。
首聯表現了詩人濃烈的生活情趣。詩人在客中，重陽到來，一時興致勃發，抱病登臺，獨酌杯酒，欣賞九秋佳色。詩人酷好飲酒、熱愛生活的情態，便在詩行中活現。
頷聯詩筆頓轉。重九飲酒賞菊，本是古代高士的傳統，可是詩人因病戒酒，雖“抱病”登臺，卻“無分”飲酒，遂也無心賞菊。於是詩人嚮菊花發號施令起來：“菊花從此不須開”！這一帶着較強烈主觀情緒的詩句，妙趣神來，好像有些任性，恰好證明詩人既喜飲酒，又愛賞菊。而詩人的任性使氣，顯然是他艱難困苦的生活遭遇使然。這一聯，杜甫巧妙地使用藉對（亦即瀋德潛所謂“真假對”），藉“竹葉青”酒的“竹葉”二字與“菊花”相對，“蕭散不為繩墨所窘”（《詩人玉屑》），被稱為杜律的創格。菊花雖是實景，“竹葉”卻非真物，然而由於字面工整貼切，特別顯得新鮮別緻，全聯遂成為歷來傳誦的名句。
頸聯進一步寫詩人矚目遐思，因景傷情，牽動了萬千愁緒。詩人獨身飄泊異地，日落時分聽到一聲聲黑猿的啼哭，不免淚下沾裳。霜天秋晚，白雁南來，更容易觸發詩人思親懷鄉的感情。詩中用他鄉和故園的物候作對照，很自然地透露了詩人內心的隱秘：原來他對酒停杯，對花輟賞，並不衹是由於病肺，更是因為鄉愁撩人啊！
尾聯以佳節思親作結，遙憐弟妹，寄托飄零寥落之感。上句由雁來想起了弟妹音信茫然；下句哀嘆自己身遭戰亂，衰老多病。詩人一邊詛咒“幹戈”象逼命似的接連發生，一邊惋惜歲月不停地催人走嚮死亡，對造成生活悲劇的根源──“幹戈”，發泄出更多的不滿情緒。這正是詩人傷時憂國的思想感情的直接流露。
此詩由因病戒酒，對花發慨，黑猿哀啼，白雁南來，引出思念故鄉，憶想弟妹的情懷，進而表現遭逢戰亂，衰老催人的感傷。結尾將詩的主題升華：詩人登高，不僅僅是思親，更多的是傷時，正所謂“杜陵有句皆憂國”。此詩全篇皆對，語言自然流轉，蒼勁有力，既有氣勢，更見性情。句句講詩律卻不着痕跡，很象在寫散文；直接發議論而結合形象，毫不感到枯燥。寫景、敘事又能與詩人的憂思關合很緊。筆端蓄聚感情，主人公呼之欲出，頗能顯示出杜甫夔州時期七律詩的悲壯風格。
