8. Wetland Description: East Dongting lake is a big wide river, the Yangtze River in its upper reaches and the commitment is satisfied Hunan Xiang, Zi, Yuan, Li 4 river water. Lake surrounded by vast swamps and plains.
9. Geographical description: East Dongting Lake Dongting Lake is the largest lake system, the average volume of 312.6 billion cubic meters over the lake. 10. Ecological Description: The lake is rich in submerged, floating and emergent plants. Recorded 131 kinds of aquatic plants, belonging to 40 families, 75 genera. Common submerged plants, including Carex, black algae, floating lotus plants, thickening and duckweed; emergent plants such as Typha and Phragmites. Wetlands surrounded by rice paddies and other crops.

16. Hydrology and natural values: The lakes and wetlands plays a huge role in the natural storage reservoir, control of the Yangtze River and Dongting Lake in the summer around the water level in flood period plays a key role. The lake is also important fishery production base in Hunan Province.
17. Social and cultural values: the area is surrounded by important agricultural production areas in Hunan Province, rice and other crops in agriculture the main economic income. Yueyang City, adjacent to the lake there are many historical and cultural monuments, has important cultural value.
18. Well-known animal populations: the place is an important wintering and migratory waterfowl, the main waterfowl species include: geese, crane, common crane, black stork and 11 duck class. Mammals, dolphin, finless porpoise often appear in the East Dongting lake, the lake has 20 species of fish have economic value, such as the Chinese sturgeon, white sturgeon and so on.
