　　专用汽车 special purpose motor vehicle
　　装有专用车厢或专用装备，从事专门运输或专门作业的汽车。随着经济的发展，专用汽车的品种和数量日益增多。经常使用的专用汽车有500余种,在工业发达国家，专用汽车的品种可达千种以上。专用汽车可分为一般专用汽车和工矿生产用汽车两大类。
　　一般专用汽车 　把公路用货运汽车改装后用于运输和完成各种不同作业的汽车。用于运输的一般专用汽车的车厢有箱式、罐式、自卸式、仓式、格栅式和桁架式等型式，可运输不同性质、状态和要求的货物，如：液态、气态和散装粉状或颗粒状固态等货物；牲畜、家禽和鲜鱼等动物;要求保温、保鲜、冷冻冷藏的货物;剧毒、易燃和易爆的危险品等。在轿车产量大的国家中，还有一次运送8～10辆轿车的双层架式车厢的专用汽车。
　　另一种一般专用汽车是从事专门作业的。这种汽车为了达到不同目的,在底盘上加装相应的作业装备,如售货车、垃圾车、清扫车、洒水车、环境保护监测车、水泥搅拌车、汽车起重机、动力站车组、修理车、勘探车、油层压裂车、科学考察车、警车、消防车、飞机牵引车、加油车、充电车、空气压缩机车、救护车、医疗设施车、图书车、电视转播车、邮政电讯车和除雪车等。
　　工矿生产用汽车 　这类汽车是专门设计和自成系列的，一般在专用道路上行驶或在特定的区域内使用。工矿生产用汽车有下列几种：①供采矿、水利工程、建筑用的自卸车，装载量为20～300吨，采用185～1200千瓦高速柴油机，液力机械传动（过去只用于装载量80吨以下，70年代起已用于108吨和160吨的自卸车）或电传动（用于80吨以上的自卸车），应用油气、硅油或橡胶为介质的悬架，带箱形纵梁（由低合金高强度钢板焊成）的车架，以及自卸车厢。转向系统为液力助力式。大吨位的自卸车上还装有紧急转向泵。制动系统用动力操纵，带有紧急制动装置。在大吨位的自卸车上还装有液力减速器。这种汽车大部分为后卸式。由于这种汽车常在恶劣环境中工作，驾驶室应密封，上面装有防护板，有的装空气调节设备。②供冶金工厂运送钢、铁水包、热钢锭和钢材用的专用运输车,装载量为30～500吨。这种汽车车速不高，发动机功率不需要很大（150～275千瓦），但要求转弯半径小，驾驶室安全和隔热。③造船厂用或运输大型设备用的平板式运输车，可运输分段焊接的船体、变压器、发电设备或化工蒸馏塔等大型设备。这种汽车顶部为一大平板，所有机构与驾驶室均在平板之下。

　　专业汽车之都
　　 2008年3月2日，中国机械工业联合会授予湖北省随州市“中国专用汽车之都”称号。中国机械工业联合会、湖北省人民政府在北京举行新闻发布会并揭牌。 据悉，经过四十多年的发展，随州成为国内专用汽车品种最齐全、特色最鲜明、产业资源最丰富的地方，也是中国最大的罐式车生产基地。目前该市大型专用汽车及零部件制造和销售企业已发展到172家，资产总额超过50亿元人民币，其中具有国家公告内资质的专用汽车企业达到16家，另有多家企业已建成专用汽车生产能力，正在申报专用汽车生产资质。具备年产各类专用汽车7万辆、专用车底盘3万辆、汽车车身3万台、车轮300万只的生产能力。能生产专用车全部12大系列中加油车、运油车、飞机加油车、液化气体运输车、低温液体运输车、化工液体运输车、粉粒物料运输车、散装水泥车、混凝土搅拌车、绿化喷洒车、下灰车、供水车、消防车、草籽播撒车、随车起重运输车、仓栅车、专用自卸车、吸粪吸污车、鲜活运输车、高空作业车、清障车、卫生防疫车、移动电瓶车、自卸车、厢式车、半挂车、客车等62个类别300余个品种的专用车。生产的罐式车在国内市场占有率达40%以上，油罐车年产销量1.5万辆，位居全国第一；环卫车年产销量1.1万辆，位居全国第一；平头车身年产销量2.5万辆，位居全国第一；钢制车轮年产销量228万只，位居全国第一；自卸车年产销量1.8万辆，位居国内三强；车桥铸造件年产销量9.2万吨，位居国内五强。
