Upcoming Programs at Lillian H Smith Library (March/ April 2

Hello everyone !!!

Hope all is well with you lately !! Just to keep you posted on some of the exciting and upcoming programs at the Lillian H. Smith Library:

* March 12, Thursday, 4;15pm to 6:15 pm - After school movie program - Disney's "High School Musical 3: Senior Year". This is a FREE young adult movie (ages 10-15). Adults may only attend if accompanying a minor.

* March 14, Saturday, 2pm-4 pm, Program Room A - Volunteering In Canada: An Information Session for Newcomers to Canada

§ Are you new to Canada and looking for Canadian experience?
§ Have you been out of the job market for a while, and want to narrow down your employment gaps?
§ Looking to fulfill your 40 hours of Community Involvement and not sure where to start?

Topics covered:
§ What is volunteering?
§ What are the benefits of volunteering if you are new to Canada?
§ What to expect when I volunteer, and what is expected of me …
§ How do I find volunteer opportunities around the GTA?…and MORE !

* March 23 to 26, Monday to Thursday, 4pm-8pm, Program Room A - CultureLink's Job Search Workshop For Newcomers (4 Day workshop session)

* April 4, Saturday, 2pm - 4pm, Program Room B & C - Toronto Garbage Tales (An Earth Day awareness workshop)

In conjunction with the City of Toronto, the LSP program will be facilitating an Earth Day awareness workshop - entitled "Toronto Garbage Tales" on April 4th (Saturday), 2pm. Bring your family and friends, and join us for a fun-filled information session and learn more about:

* What happens to your recyclables and trash when they leave the curb
* The “real dirt” about Solid Waste Management Services department’s 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) programs
* Recycling: What exactly do we accomplish and how do we benefit?
* The Green & Blue Bin and other recycling tips and resources …and MORE!


Other on-going programs:

* Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program (for Grade 7 to 12), starting March 28th on every Saturdays. Very limited spaces left.

* Youth Advisory Groups (YAG) for youths looking for volunteer opportunities. You can help to develop the library service for youths and get your community service time. (The Youth Advisory Group is also available at other branches. * WALK INTO HEALTH - PEDOMETER Lending Program

Spring is around the corner!!!! For those of you who need to add some motivation to your walking, why not use a pedometer or join a walking group?
(A pedometer is a simple tool that is used to count the number of steps you take.) The Library can help you on your path to fitness.
Visit one of the branch libraries listed below, borrow a pedometer and learn to count the steps to a healthier you.

When you borrow a pedometer from selected libraries, you will get:

* A package including the Walk Into Health booklet (PDF file size 425KB), with information on walking and how to use the pedometer
* Ideas of where you can walk in Toronto
* A calendar to write down how much you have walked. This will help you track your progress
* Suggested list of books to read
