Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture (CCVT) requires a Community Development Officer.

The Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture an agency that provides services to survivors of torture, victims of war and their families is looking for an experienced person to fill the position of Community Development Officer for East Downtown Toronto Local Immigration Partnership. The Community Development Officer works with agencies, provides support to working groups, the Steering Committee and service providers in their effort to support the establishment and direction of the neighbourhood partnership council including supporting the strategic planning and implementation processes. LIP Community Development Officer works with newcomer communities in order to collectively bring about social change and improve quality of life.

Responsibilities:

•To work with the Project manager to support the establishment and direction of the neighbourhood partnership including supporting the strategic planning and implementation processes
•To develop and implement the communication and outreach plan that will identify and integrate partners in the community
•To work with the community identifying their needs and issues, formulating strategies and implementing them
•To oversee the practical arrangements for ensuring that people from all sections of the community (community leaders and key people) are actively involved and contributing to the community development process, as part of LIP strategic planning and implementation
•To act as a liaison between local organizations, businesses and individuals and representatives of government, business and industry concerning community development and newcomer needs and services
•To organize and ensure the timely implementation of the activities of the project
•To support LIP project meetings, consultations and events with logistical support, including planning and coordinating meetings and events, drafting agendas, minute taking, booking space and other assistance as required
•To conduct surveys, quantitative and qualitative research and analysis on newcomer needs and services
•To identify and secure, long term, sustainable funding for relevant projects
•To organize and deliver community consultations, focus groups and other stakeholder groups
•To develop and disseminate communication and outreach material as well as other promotional materials
•To provide regular monthly progress reports
Qualifications:

•Post secondary education, or equivalent relevant major or three years experience in the settlement sector
•Strong oral, written and presentation skills, including report writing
•Strong computer skills including Desktop Publishing, design and Internet functions
•Knowledge of the areas of immigration, settlement, employment, Toronto service sector
•Strong facilitation skills, experience in leading/working with multi-stakeholder partnership planning processes, councils and/or steering committees
•Highly skilled analytical and critical appraisal skills, able to see “big picture” and recognize implications on the front-line and vice versa
•Self-directed and independent but also proven experience in working effectively as a team member in collaboration with other community professionals
This is an 11 month contract position.
Salary: $22.28 per hour
