THAT IS MY DUTY… By MaHuairong

It is my fortune to assist you in knowing
China’s most marvelous reality
through my best imaginative poetry.
That is not my privilege but my duty.

If I am myself a flint,
It is my duty to strike some tinder
as if get live cinders from a blazing sun.

If I am myself a torch,
It is my duty to burn the candle of my life
with a flame of self-sacrifice.

If I am myself a match,
It is my duty to light the spiritual sun
of the awakening nation.

The sacred fire of civilization has been burning
dimly visible through centuries.
The light lights wherever it reaches,
while the darkness remains where it hides.

I might be a born poet,
endowed with a fantastic sense of rhythm.
Mathematics is too what I was good at.
I can reduce or magnify the universe at ease..

Like a newborn baby lying prostrate
on the lawn as if to embrace the globe,
Like a landing eagle drawing in its wings
as if to make another taking off.

Duties make me transcend worldliness
actually yet gradually into holiness.
Sometimes I hate what I am to be,
dreaming of a breeze passing the world without trace.

I don't think you need 'By MaHuairong' in the title line, it is kind of distracting. The works here are all original unless otherwise noted.

I've been watching the games every day.
