Location(s): Etobicoke/Northern Etobicoke
This person will be responsible for initial service response to newcomer requests for assistance through provision of
general information including making arrangements for access to programs, services and equipment and other
resources

Responsibilities:
• carries out initial assessment and responds quickly and accurately to client requests
• provides orientation including information, resources and available equipment and facilities
• determines and communicates client eligibility requirements for government programs, services and benefits
• facilitates access to internal, government and community programs and services, fills out forms, assists clients with language difficulties by providing and/or arranging for interpreters and makes appointments
• on behalf of the client
• develops and maintains effective relationships with other agencies
• orders and distributes government application forms
• carries out appropriate follow-up procedures
• assists in evaluation process
• adheres to policies/procedures and best practices
• other duties as assigned
• Staff Team Maintenance
• contributes and supports the activities of the Resource Centre
• participates in team, staff and supervisory meetings and attends relevant community meetings
• assists with orientation and training of new staff, volunteers and student placements
• provides relief and substitutes in the absence of other Intake Worker
• identifies and recommends training and development needs for self
• Administration
• ensures that al l participant information is up-to-date and submitted on a regular basis
• ensures that un its of service are documented correctly
• contributes to the development and maintenance of resource information for clients
• submits weekly timesheets
• submits cash receipts, cheque requisitions and other paperwork weekly
• monitor inventory of materials and supplies
• Community Outreach
• exchanges information and resources with staff members
• encourages clients to make newcomer referrals to Resource Centre
• maintains and ecords contacts with other community agencies

Qualifications:
• Post-secondary education in human services field (social work, community work) or equivalent work
• experience within a culturally diverse community-based setting
• Knowledge and understanding of issues facing newcomers
• Knowledge of government programs and community services for newcomers
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal English)
• Computer literacy is a requirement
• Ability to work in a team setting
• Knowledge of case management and service delivery evaluation processes
• Multi-lingual skills such as Somali, Farsi, Arabic or Assyrian would be an asset
• Knowledge of community resources and programs
Hours of Operation: Mon.Wed. and Fri. 9:30 ? 5pm, Tues. and Thurs. 9:30 ? 8pm. Sat.10-2pm.)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
