Watching the moon of a pale white lantern
as I thought my mom was in the moon.
Dreaming myself riding a space-ship to my home town,
As I passed through the oceans and mountains.
Why I see my father is thinking deeply?
My daughter’s children are smiling with happiness?
Immediately I felt myself with a line of grand-children
Recalled my memory for my children playing fire works,
We entered the Victoria Garden in the Moon Festival.
Are you still sleeping in your dream?
You should believe I am always staying by your side.

想到死與不死之間紏纏?
詩人如你們一樣白痴?

Twenty years already left my birth and grew up place.
廿年离生地
My hair is suddenly found white and grey.
今巳生白髮
These few years get up very early sit near the window.
每朝早起坐窗前
where I watch the roaring cars like a river of water on the freeway.
高速公路车吼像江河.
How many men and cars have been passing through?
公路上有多少人在车上?
My eyes every day can see them on the way.
每天但见人们在路途里,
I wonder the people on their way for their rights, and fame.
他们為何在路上去争权,名和利,
How hard they are struggling to and fro every day?
人们為何每天来来往往?
Does any man know there'll be one day he will be calm down like me?
谁人有朝一日如我一样静下来
Fully retire and resting with no more exciting demands.
退休之后再没有奢望.
How many men of hero have been rising and down?
几许英雄起起落落?
How many of the greatest can still be remembered?
尚有几许伟人我们忘掉?
In the historical waves buried thousands of great.
歷史波涛埋没了几许伟人
Try your best to love the public not in vain;
试尽可能爱人们不虚渡
It is only the best mark on a great man face.
那是你面上最好的记号.

胡適1916年8月19日的日記卻對"八事"有詳細記載：……前

日寫信致朱經農說：新文學之要點，約有八事：

（1）不用典。

　　（2）不用陳套語。

　　（3）不講對仗。

　　（4）不避俗語。（不嫌以白話作詩詞。）

（5）須講究文法。--以上為形式的方面。

　　（6）不作無病之呻吟。

　　（7）不摹倣古人。

　　（8）須言之有物。--以上為精神（內容）的方面。

　　以上八點後來經過小的修改，在第三條"不講對仗"後面又強調了"文當廢駢，詩當廢律"，第七條後面又加了"語語須有個我在"，寫入《文學改良芻議》，發表在1917年1月1日出版的《新青年》第2卷第5號上。

《歌聲陪伴我》

少年學得好嗓子,穿山過嶺唱山歌。
青年西歌追潮流,哼歌淋浴可消愁。
情歌喜曲都可唱,身心輕快歡樂過。
心情苦惱唱舊歌,問句少年想什麼。
失戀唱出心中火,情人眼中的愛果。
成年唱歌跟心情,起起落落莫奈何。
失意唱歌自安慰,壞心情感覺沒錯。
獨自在山坡高處,卻變命運在泠笑。
暗示了前途無路,我高步向前開創。
年老心志較安定,抱著孫兒唱山歌。
教孫唱歌點星星,歌聲引得孫兒樂。
歌聲伴我大半生,引領人生笑呵呵。
