我举起一只18亿年的水壶

仰天痛饮

我站成卡尔斯堡要塞

寂寥的样子

把心脏清冽的冰水

交还韦特恩湖

Untie the reins

Of the mechanical Dala horse of the Göta Canal;

Come greet the glacier torrents

Leaping from the Far North, three thousand miles away.

Come,

Open the sluice gates of these waters,

Gather all the freshness

Into Vättern—

This second-largest

Crystal heart

Of the Swedish heartland.

Come,

Open the limestone and the granite,

A stone tent

Capacious enough to shelter

The entire government of Sweden.

Come,

In a momentary trance,

I lift a water flask eighteen hundred million years old

And drink deeply toward the sky.

I stand in the form of Karlsborg Fortress,

A silhouette of solitude,

Returning all the chilled, clear ice-water of my heart

Back to Lake Vättern.
