Nidaros Cathedral
The glaciers of Dovrefjell
Flow into the River Nidelva,
Dissolving the collarbones.
The olivine crystals of the mantle,
Following the decrees of the Bible,
Erode into
Soapstone of a warm texture,
Carving out the Virgin and the Saints.
Within their glass pupils:
A soft grayish-blue,
A pearly luster,
For the congregation to adore.
My daughter, Emily,
Due to the sudden outbreak of the Coronavirus,
Hurriedly interrupted
Her exchange program
At the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
I have come.
The pipe organ resounding through the cathedral
Surges from the gaps between the soapstone teeth,
Piercing the clouds.
Following the pilgrimage route,
I come prostrate,
One step ahead of the ice,
Crossing the Old Town Bridge.
