冷不丁在荒野里撞响一句：

“扈江离与辟芷兮，纫秋兰以为佩”

稻花香飘到十里之西

海潮顿起

我在落叶间加冕

鹰羽战帽盖过香草诗人的虚名

每念一句，便走近你一步

直至第一百二十七行——

“魂乎徕归！尚三王只”

我摊开四肢，交接身体的控制权

此刻，哈根溪既是江北，也是江南

适合放逐，适合招魂

适合同三文鱼男孩

交换脱胎换骨的巫术

The Great Summons

I took at the University of Victoria

twenty-six years ago,

I localize, one by one,

the "search high and low" from Li Sao.

Duanwu. Hagan Creek.

I cast in schools of Steelhead

to replace the meat filling. Wrapped in the zongzi

are Pacific Bleeding Heart, Coralroot, and Snow-in-Summer.

Especially the Vanilla Leaf—to repel mosquitoes, to drive off flies.

Exchanging the lotus leaf for Skunk Cabbage,

suddenly, a line strikes and echoes through the wilderness:

"I had gathered the water-chestnut and the orchid of the break,

to bind them together for the ornament of my girdle."

The fragrance of rice flowers wafts ten miles to the west.

The tide rises abruptly.

I am crowned among the fallen leaves,

an eagle-feather war bonnet eclipsing the vanity of being a "fragrant herb poet."

With every line I recite, I take a step closer to you,

until the 127th line—

"O soul, come back! Follow the three ancient kings!"

I spread my limbs, handing over control of this body.

At this moment, Hagan Creek is both North and South of the Yangtze.

A place fit for exile, fit for summoning the soul,

fit for exchanging with the Salmon Boy

the sorcery of metamorphosis.
