和平岛

每年夏末

里斯都会给我送三文鱼

红鲑是三文鱼人民

女少族长

红皮神木编织的红裙子

并非寻找她的王子

而是想要告诉他

必须把吃剩的鱼骨

放回水里

来年，春天，她才会

复活

钟鼎山的南边

流出一条叫Hagan Creek的小溪

往南几公里

Longing for the Beauty

by Peace Island (He Ping Dao)

Every year at summer’s end

Reece always sends me salmon.

Sockeye are the Salmon People,

And she, the young Matriarch.

In a red skirt woven from sacred red cedar,

She comes not to seek her prince,

But to tell him:

You must return the picked-clean bones

To the water,

So that she may, in the coming spring,

Be reborn.

South of Mt. Zhongding,

A stream called Hagan Creek flows.

It runs south for a few kilometers,

Then veers west

To the estuary, where every autumn

The salmon return to spawn.

This land is thick with blue camas,

Blackberries, and wild roses;

It is my Jiangnan.

I love to wander here and chant:

“Longing for the Beauty, I brush away tears and gaze afar.”

On the south bank of the creek,

ȽÁU, WELṈEW̱ Tribal School

Is the school of Reece’s granddaughter.

This story was told by the teachers there.

I have never once released a fish bone.

“Alas, I fall short of the ancients; with whom shall I cherish these fragrant herbs?”

Searching, searching, yet never finding—

It’s so hot, so stifling.
