Stone
Panting, dragging my shadow all the way to the peak,
It merges, finally, into one with the stone.
As the greatest of them all,
The sun shines upon its own image,
Giving concrete form to the stone’s exterior.
A substance with a touch of divinity—may be called jade.
Only those endowed with the soul of great rivers,
Through the copulation of Heaven and Earth, nourished by water and moon,
Might transform into a monkey,
A butterfly,
Or a man.
The shadow,
However, is stuck halfway up the mountain.
Perhaps it fused too thoroughly with the rock,
Perhaps it hasn't fully shed its lithic womb,
Or perhaps, it is merely atavism.
I am destined to drag you every day,
This little sun of mine,
Singing as I beat the earth.
