Beautiful Annecy
Peace Island
Exhausting the last thread of strength,
I metamorphose into a butterfly,
Curling like mist, like smoke,
Heading south.
What kind of pearl is this

Spat out Lake Annecy.
I slip quietly into
The shell,
Into the hollow space within,
To steal the blueprints of Heaven—
Avoiding every flaw of Venice, Florence, Suzhou, Hangzhou.
The water here possesses a magic;
Following the ridges of the shell,
It flows into
Lake-light and mountain-hue.
Every frame
Meets the aesthetic standards of Impressionism;
Small bridges, flowing water, cottages—
The very essence of Shanshui freehand ink.

I chose a castle
In the heart of the waters.
Shedding the butterfly’s coat,
I reveal my human form.
This is Palais de l’Isle.

Is the Bridge of Loves.
I wave frantically to you upon the bridge,
Using baguettes, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, and beer.
