The Colosseum
By He Ping Dao (Peace Island)
I charge with a madness more frantic than a submachine gun.
With a single crouch, I bolt through the Arch of Constantine.
A mere tourist at the Roman Colosseum,
Carelessly, I crash through the time barrier,
Only to be struck head-on
By a spear.
Together with the marble columns behind me—
And their textures, as ancient as the dinosaurs—
I shatter into countless fragments.
Who would like to be that damned Spartacus?
The superpower of the ancient Roman Empire
Collapses with a roar
Right in front of your eyes.
Anyone who comes to Rome to play knows:
My heart has snapped into two.
One half is enshrined in a Vatican marble casket;
The rest
Is used to pile walls, lay bricks, mend stone, and mix concrete.
Have no doubt: every word I speak, every staccato of these breaks,
Comes straight from the Bible.
